Just beginning my search for a cushion upgrade. I LOVE the chunky antique cushions on GOG. Is his cut patented? My local jeweler is bringing in some antique-looking cushions for me to look at. What is availability like on diamonds with this appearance? Any other words of advice?

I was also thinking of having it set in a Tiffany Novo-style setting. Any thoughts/ opinions?

THANKS!!! So thrilled to have found this site with such devoted resources!

Welcome!

The cushions from GOG are Jon's creation and signature cut, you would need to ask him concerning legalities such as TM etc. If you can't find one of his gorgeous cushions to suit you, this company offer antique cushions and other stones you might be interested in - if you are looking for an actual old stone.

That is a lot of money for jewelry.

If GOG do not have anything you are looking for, you can tell them your specs and budget and they can source a rough and cut it for you.

Just imagine having that budget to have GOG cut a chunky cushion just for you. That''s exactly what I would do.

A tiffany novo like setting would look gorgeous and would really make that size rock look huge!

Hello Cushion Girl, and welcome to PS! What a fun project you have ahead of you.

If you do a search on the forums here you will find loads of info. First, as to an antique looking cushion, there are several posts on the different facet patterns (am I using the right terminology?) of antique and modern cushions from a year or two ago. I recall that some were very detailed-even scientific-by posters Boston_Jeff, Cehrabehra and Pixley. Search "antique cushions" and you should find plenty of info.

GOG is a great place to find what you are looking for. Others have also had luck with JBEG (jewelsbyericagrace) mentioned above, Singlestone and Mark at Engagement Rings Direct.

If you would like to look at settings, you can also search that. I have done so myself and found several that contains lots of pictures and ideas.

Happy hunting!

I would recommend checking out GOG''s videos on cushions and paying a visit in person.

I don''t believe it is patented but you are not going to find the same cut quality else where. Antique cushions aren''t cut to this type of precision.

Hi Cushion Girl

GOG has some beautiful stones and the cut seems to be very consistent. I recently got a 4.2 CT cushion from ERD. Mark at ERD told me there are only a couple cutters that cut an antique style, chunky faceted cushion, and in the higher carats, choices do become more limited and demand is high.

If you like an antique look and higher colors, this stone is deep like a true antique cut and looks beautiful- and its a whopping 5 carats!

Maybe out of your price range but nothing better than this one http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6381/ if out of your price range contact Jon at GOG to maybe get one cut in your spec range and budget.

I have been eyeing that diamond and I love it. But it is a little high in price, as well as overkill with the D. I''m looking at a few diamonds on Friday. I''m anxious to see what my jeweler had called in. Do you know if GOG does wholesale diamonds to jewelers?

have you inquired with www.singlestone.com ?

Hi! i think i may have found some SUPERIOR stones for you that i saw "live" - i am shopping for antique cushion and was in Mark Turnowski''s office yesteday and he had some 3+ carat beauties that were GORGEOUS! and in your price range

The pricing was great and actually the stones looked better than the GOG one cited here- ( in my humble opinion) - you can ring in below 40k i think...

Def give him a call - he had a few in his ''special box"
