Hey all! I am back with another question.

I have a stone on hold at a jeweler and I''m pretty stoked about. It is 1.07ct RB, H SI1. It''s stunning, eye clean and I can''t see any inclusions or flaws with it through the occular. It is currently set in a 4 prong WG setting. I am really nervous about it being set in that. The current stone, .52ct, I have is in a 6 prong WG setting and I feel better about it knowing it''s more "secure".

Has anyone heard of a stone falling out of a 4 prong setting more than a 6 prong? I do plan on wearing this everyday (ering upgrade) and I am a stay-at-home mom with a 1 yr old. Is this a valid concern? Will it look bad in a 6 prong? The jeweler I was dealing with told me that it would look bigger in a 4 and is pretty safe, but I''m just paranoid. I''m spending a fair bit of money on it, I just want to make sure I won''t lose it.

Thoughts?

Thank you!

The prongs of a 4 prong ring are usually a little thicker. Many, many people wear 4 prong rings all the time with no problem. I wore my original e-ring in a simple 4 prong setting for 30 years with no problem. I have another 4 prong setting now. Get whatever you like best and have it insured!

(ETA: YOu need to have it insured no matter how many prongs you have, though!)

Oh I am getting it insured! I thought about getting Pt prongs, but would that look funny with a WG band? I have a wrap that is going to go with it, so I wouldn''t want to lower the settings.

Do you know anything about the illusion setting? I have heard that they make the stone look even bigger?

I always try to get my clients to get platinum prongs if they want to go with four prongs versus six.

Yes, you can wear a four prong most often without problems, but if you loose one prong you loose the diamond. With six you must loose at least two prongs to loose the diamond, sometimes four if you only loose every other prong. Of course if you wear it long enough to loose four prongs you will get NO sympathy from anyone when you finally loose the diamond...

I think platinum heads look just fine with white or yellow gold rings, and it has been my experience that they are more dependable than gold prongs.

Wink

thank you for your reply Wink. I have only heard about the durability of the Pt prongs, but is there a big price difference? Would it be better to buy the setting online and have it set in the store or to send my diamond and my wrap in and have it all done together?

My e-ring is 4 prongs (platinum) so far so good! No issues! :)
