Is one better than the other? thank you all for your help.

If the setting is well made (key), I have heard from some experts that no, it doesn''t matter.

Part of it is personal preference. 4 prongs can give a round stone a more squarish view from some angles, whereas 6 keeps it looking rounder.

It depends on the setting. Some settings only look nice with four prongs. For added safety I would go with six prongs.

I generally like the 4 prong setting but a larger stone I would probably go with a 6 prong setting.

I have had both and I am a total 6 prong person. Its a safety issue for me. I did have my oval in a 4 prong originally, but when I traded in the setting I requested a 6 prong mounting head. I worried about the amount of diamond that was exposed and I also worried that if I lost one prong, the stone would go too. I really think its a personal preference, and both look nice.

As long as you are getting your ring checked every year or so either is fine for safety. I prefer the look of four prongs, but many prefer six. I think four prongs are less noticeable than 6 and you can see more of the diamond, but others lik how the six prongs make the stone look rounder.
