4.5 to 5 Carat Super Ideal search help

Thank you for your reply. I was told that it could not be insured because of its value not because of the chosen appraiser? And yet this doesn't make sense because the appraiser is on the WF list that you just referenced in your post!
@LbF It can be insured, but it requires special arrangements due to the amount being over standard limits. Those arrangements are made easier by the fact that you are using a vetted appraiser.

Very nice diamond.
I would not custom cut because you don't know the outcome.
I didn't check the price, but if it's lower than diamonds with the same grade, perhaps it's a low F - high G, what would still be high enough.
The appraiser can check this and the transparency of the diamond.

If you have both diamond options available to look at together (lucky you! :) ) then you should ask the appraiser to not tell you which is which, and to just place both next to each other in a stone holder - that way you can pick with your eyes and remove any bias you might have towards either vendor.

I am in agreement that you can't compare a 3 ct and a 4.5 ct stone very well. In addition, every diamond has slightly different angles. Let's say she likes the angles/table, etc. of one stone better than the other. There is no guaranteee that any vendor could custom cut a stone with those exact angles and measurements, and I am doubtful that they'd promise to do so. Which all goes back to...seeing what you are buying before buying is a really good idea with an item of this price range. I honestly don't see how an appraiser will be of use in this situation. Both will be top quality stones and they probably don't see them everyday. Be sure the stones are at least the same color.
