I've noticed some internet vendors include an appraisal certificate with each stone they sell. Are these sufficient to help me make sure I are getting what I paid for or should I still get it appraised independently?
Independent appraisal costs extra $. If you need it only for insurance you can use the one that comes from your vendor. However, if the appraisal value is over inflated you will pay higher insurance premium.
If you want to make sure the diamond is as represented by your vendor, you'll be safer with independent appraiser who doesn't sell to the public.
Generally we recommend using an independent appraiser. However, there are jewelers with great integrity and reputation so you might not need an independent verification if you trust your jeweler.
