Hi there -

Long time listener and first-time caller on this forum. This is awesome, especially @Karl_K and his articles on P3. I am in NY and visiting a wholesaler later this week but wanted to ping this forum for some advise on looking for a 3ct emerald diamond.

Here are my ideal diamond specs:
Natural diamond
3.0+ carats
G+ color (ideally F+)
VS1+ clarity
Ex polish
Ex symmetry
1.35+ L/W ratio (more rectangular, ideally around 1.40)

Budget is ~60K

Hi and welcome.
How exciting for you! I’m not one of the experts, but I also was at one time looking for an EC over 3ct. It isn’t easy to find in that size. The pros on here are great, but if inventory is low, I would suggest using one of the recommended vendors to help you locate some choices. There are a few PriceScope vendors in NYC. I worked with Yuketiel at IDJEwelry. He has helped a lot of people. You should call ahead, wherever you go, and be sure they have some diamonds with your specs in house before you waste your time going.

I ended up going with a lab grown from Jann Paul. I don’t have the ring yet, as it takes a while, but it should be here in about a month or two. Worth the wait!

Click on the video so you can control the rotation,
look at the side view, notice the crown is very shallow?
not a great start.
Now view it face up and as level as you can by making the windmills the same length.
The center is bright, great
Now look out from the center to the girdle, not overly dark with lots of bright rectangles, great.
Now make t rotate back and forth increasing amounts.
Does it dance? yep.
So whats the conclusion, while a higher crown would be nice the facet angles and locations work well together in the video conditions.
An aset image would help to confirm the face up performance and show things not visible in the video.
It has potential.
