Hi all,

After finally receiving the video, would really appreciate anyone's thoughts around the below 1.00, D, VS2, ideal cut lab. Would the black edge be able to be covered easily enough with the setting? How much of a difference is a 34 degree crown angle (w/59% table) vs a 35 (w/56% table)? Will there be significantly less fire?

Thank you!!
That stone is a 60/60 style - 60% table, 60% depth (or close to it).

With the lower crown angle (33.5 degrees) and the 60/60 style of cutting, it will likely produce more white light than coloured fire, but as always with diamonds, the lighting of the surrounding environment will play a large part in how any diamond performs.

You could hide the black inclusion on the girdle by putting it under a prong or mounting the stone in a bezel or halo setting.

I have a diamond with very similar proportions: table 59%, depth 59.6%, crown angle 33.5, pavilion angle 40.8. It sparkles beautifully with both white light and flashes of color.
Keep in mind that the video you’re seeing is very magnified, you likely can’t see the inclusion just looking at the diamond in real life. Overall, that is is beautiful stone.

Would you prefer one the following then for a better balance of fire & brilliance? I think we lean to preferring more fire. All have smaller tables and ~35 degree crown angles. I really appreciate your perspective!

Run the angles through the HCA tool under the Tools tab at the top of the forum - stones scoring under 2 are what you are looking for, although scores up to around the mid-twos could still be options :)

Smaller table and higher crowns can produce more coloured fire so definitely look for those things if fire is what you prefer :)

That is a very beautiful ring, IolantheJane!

Thanks so much OS. I really appreciate your responses! That's helpful about IGI/GCIA and other ratings agencies.

OS--I've found a number of stones on brilliantearth that have great angles and top marks across but then show up w/less than ideal H&A's on the idealoscope

Perfect H&A patterns aren't strictly required for a good performer, so don't get too hung up on them :)

ASETscope images are a better indicator of cut quality and light performance, although (annoyingly) the IGI /GCAL grading reports don't use actual ASET!
