Bought both the H and F and brought them home from the appraiser. While my girlfriend was out, I compared the stones in different lighting for about an hour and a half. I finally figured out what I saw at the appraiser, but could not put my finger on when in full sun.

The F stone is putting off icy white light. It still has broadfire flash, but I do not think they seem as big as the H flash because of the constant "on" light. There is less contrast.

The H stone has more of the whitish-gray, off and on, kind of glow. It is not as constant white, but as a result, many more color flashes.

To me it appears the H is like fireworks at night. The F is like fireworks during the day. I had been looking for both, but I think that may not be possible. In order to see the bigger fire bang I have to not be looking into a flashlight. I like both, but for opposite reasons. In non-direct light they appeared very close with a slight margin to the F color.

I was hoping to keep the diamond a complete surprise. But it is difficult to describe to my girlfriend and have her truly understand what I mean. I debate whether to show her the stones.

If anyone is reading this to learn, then I suggest a talk with the diamond recipient to determine preference. It sure makes the process easier!

I came to a decision!

It is the F stone.

It was a toss up for me. I went to sleep thinking both were good. In the morning my girlfriend decided she could not resist looking at the stones. She was able to easily pick out a favorite, but not due to price, stats, etc. We had a lengthy discussion about the stone the previous night. When we went to sleep the H stone (sight unseen) was the winner based upon my descriptions.
She just liked the look of the F stone better. The color was the winning factor for her. Since I was split on the choice, this settled it for me. I also mixed them up and let her look at them under different lights and she was able to pick a favorite 95% of the time. I would then examine them and each time it was the F. The mix up test was the factor. If she said she could not tell then the H would be the one.

What a morning.

Now I am working with Whiteflash on a custom 3 row pave ring. I appreciate everyone''s advice. I think I suffered from "paralysis by analysis". The numbers and looking at the stones was helpful, but I am glad to have found a stone that spoke to both of us.

Thanks again.

I know you wanted it to be a surprise, but personally I''m glad you let her pick.

Good luck on the ring, and please post picks when it''s done!

I love the paralysis by analysis. That is SOOOOO true. There is so much number % info, that for the layman customer, just keeps you second guessing your choice.

In the end. Buying a diamond is a tradeoff. Each has their own comfort zone of trade offs!

That is why seeing the stone can be the best deciding factor.

Good luck and is''t great that she did the final pick. That makes it even more special.

I agree I am glad I included her in the process. It was funny how in the beginning one stone "sang" to me, but as I developed a better understanding of the 2 stones both began their "sweet music".

I may be hooked and now have to buy a diamond necklace or something. Gotta collect them all!! AHHHHHHH!! PS you did it again.

At the end of the day, that is absolutely what should determine your selection! Reports, figures, etc are great, but you wear the diamond and look at it, so that''s what should be most important!

YAY, and congrats!

Thanks! I can not wait to get the details of the setting worked out. I am going back and forth with the designer as to how much they are willing to alter their design. I am aware that they have to be careful about copying someone else, but I am looking to modify slightly an original WF design. It will be interesting over the next few weeks to see if they can make my vision a reality.

The ring is in the works. We have ironed out the details and WF has been very good at working with me. I have seen a rough wax, so now I wait for something in metal.

I do not think there is a need for the update on my progress, I mainly wanted to give some praise to WF for their patience with me through this process. I am one of those people who had made many phone calls.
They have really helped me with my custom work.

Details, details, details!

Good times!
