For an upgrade, I''m thinking about adding side stones to my existing diamond. Does anyone have thoughts about the proportions of side stones to center stone? I''d like to go fairly big on the side stones to maximize finger coverage and bling, but wonder if it will look awkward not to have a noticeable decrease in size from center stone to side stones. If there''s only about 1 mm difference in diameter (all will be round brilliant), will that be visually pleasing? Should there be a more definite decrease in size (20%, 33%, 50%, etc.) from center to side stones?

I would just suggest you try different proportions on to make sure you like the look because it is a matter of personal preference, and what you think you may or may not like might surprise you.

Yesterday I tried on a fake ring to get a sense of proportions, which I thought I would like- I did not like them that large and covering all the way across at all and it looked not so good on me! Personally, I like the sidestones smaller and them not covering the whole way across, but that is my personal preference. I love, love, love bling... but there are just some styles/sizes that are just a totally wrong look on me for my taste.

Honestly, there''s no ''right'' answer here. It is strictly dependent on your personal preference.

For my 3-stone, my priority was to keep center-stage attention on my center stone, so I choose .30s for my 1.25 center. That''s as big as I''d have gone, and truthfully, I could have been thrilled with .25s too.

I know other people who prefer more of a classic 3-stone look, and that often means 2:1 ratio center to sides.

It really depends on what pleases YOUR eye.

For an anniversary upgrade, I was thinking of a similarly-sized past-present-future look, rather than a larger center stone, e-ring style look. I''m thinking about getting a few CZ stones in various diameters and trying them out with my existing diamond. Thanks for your help.

I feel like you've been given great advice.

My 3 stone has a one carat center and 3/4 carat side stones.

My advice would be to go with what pleases *your* eye. Why not play with some different size stones and see what you think?
