went shopping for an emerald cut eternity ring today in nyc. posted previously that i was looking for an 8 carat total weight emerald cut eternity ring with F color and Vs2/VVS1 clarity. can pick up that ring for about 16K. One from Facets and another from Golda''s.

well, we also saw a ring today that i''d like an opinion on as far as pricing and also the grading lab.

it was platinum setting, 2.22 center stone G-color, SI2 clarity. Graded by EGL. The side stones were not graded but according to the jeweler are 1.05 each with G color and SI3 clarity. I can own this ring for 21K.

two questions -- is the price "too good"? is an EGL report accurate? appreciate your thoughts.

should also have pointed out the diamond are round and the cut was graded "ideal".

appreciate the help. the ring is at golda''s in the diamond district in nyc. ...

You can use the PriceScope your diamond at the top of the page.

I can tell you something about Golda''s. Ordered a setting through them awhile ago after a PS member (decodelighted) posted that she bought her setting and asscher there. GREAT customer service. Friendly and professional. I love my setting. I can''t advise you as to price since I don''t know about that 3-stone round ring. But I can tell you I loved dealing with Golda''s. As far as EGL certs, they can be off as far as color and clarity (meaning they grade the diamond better color-wise and clarity-wise than GIA would).

I''m not sure of the price but have heard that you shouldn''t go below VS2 on an emerald cut if you are bothered by inclusions. I''m told that is VERY hard to find an SI1 eye clean emerald cut because it doesn''t have all the facets to "mask" the inclusions. Personally, I would not spend the money on any EGL SI2 graded stone without an INDEPENDENT appraisal as I''ve heard they are less accurate with their grading than GIA or AGS. I have never really looked at emerald cuts closely as I''m not interested, I''ve just learned this from reading consumer AND professional posts here on pricescope. Good luck on your search, I would LOVE to have had that budget during my search.
