3 Stone Cushion Cut Opinions

Hey All,

Just wanted to get some expert opinions on a 3 stone cushion cut ring I am building... Want to know what you think in general, best ideas or advice when talking to the person setting (in general I think it will be platinum, with as thin a band as possible, and do not want the prongs to be prominent, but would love advice), what you think of the price, and will these stones fit well together and make a nice ring?

Center stone:
2.04 carat - Cushion Brilliant

Measurements are 7.95 x 7.46 x 4.33mm
No Fluor
No Culet
Good Polish, VG symmetry
Girdle - Slt thick to thick

Side stone #1:
0.59 Carat - Cushion Brilliant
F - VS1 - Good cut
67.4 Depth, 65 table, No FLuor, no culet, thin to very thick faceted
G symmetry, VG polish, Measurements are 5.02x4.72x3.18 mm

Side stone #2:
0.57 Carat - Cushion Brilliant
F - VS2 - Good cut
67.2 Depth, 65 table, No FLuor, no culet, thin to thick faceted
G symmetry, VG polish, Measurements are 5.06x4.73x3.18 mm

What do you guys think a fair price should be? It is around $22

There are so many variables: First of all- do the stones carry GIA reports?

this migh help get an idea of how legit the price is- but it will NOT answer other, vital questions.
SUCH AS: how do the stones look together?

Also- if you have a particular type of ring in mind, make sure the manufacturer you choose makes ring that look like the picture in your mind.
ONce ou start asking ring manufacturers to start changing details, you could end up with somethign that looks noting like your idea.

If their style of ring matches your idea, then you are far more likely to get satisfaction.

Yes they are all GIA certed.

THe style of ring I have in mind was one I saw where the stones were all mostly square (which I believe these will fit that same bill), and the setting was on the lighter side (not a thick band and not a very fancy band/setting). I am hoping this allows the diamonds themselves to be the stars!)

Well! Where have I seen a similar ring??? Oh! On my hand

(although mine is a 1:1...in retrospect, might have pref'd a tad rectangular)

But as david said, you need to see them all together. There are different types of cushions and different looks. So I stuck to three stones that had the same facet pattern and tables and depths so the look would be uniform. and not to mention that it's no small fete to find two small cushions of the same l:w! I think yours is looking good...but go see them together

the prongs look larger in the pic than they are. the band is a little thick for me but whatever.

I think I would want a slighlty thinner band, but other than that almost the same look.

How would you suggest to set the stone, should the longer side be up the finger on all the stones? or what would you suggest?

It is hard to find matching sides thats why I jumped at these two which I found on BN that seemed identical. They are all cushion brilliant, so hopefully they will match. I figure a little extra depth on the sides is ok, cause they are still not nearly as derep in mm as the center, and the slighlty larger table should not be a big deal since it is similar.

There a different facet patterns for different "cushion brilliants!" So you totally need to see them! So many variables...but you're on the right track! They could be perfect matches!

So let me ask you- you are buying totally unseen? Do you have the center already? The only reason I ask is b/c I saw mine on BN and had Mark T get them for me for cheaper. He looked at all three together and gave me the go-ahead. But BN does have a return policy.... Personally, I would ask a vendor to get the two (or three) for you...they can see them both without you having to pay for both first and they can tell you what they thing and you'll pay less than BN. Trust me!

I know with Mark, you tell him what you want and he walks over to the supplier in NYC at lunchtime LOL and reports back!

I would def set them all the long way.

p.s. thanks for the compliment! My stones are strange birds....called by some as "modern cushions"...they have a different look and facet pattern and are a bit more expensive

so I can't really say on your price.... I think BN is overpriced though

I have someone getting me a couple of center stones to look at... and I will make sure they match before buying them... I will ask this broker/jeweler, and then also ask another friend who is a diamond broker, and certer (just to get another opinion). Yeah I figured I could return the BN side stones if they do not match.

When you say the long way you mean to have the longer side go up the finger? (thus making the width of the ring across the finger slightly less... which makes sense because she has small and thin fingers.)

Many people love the broad shank like MOre''s
And still others prefer a slimmer shank- you''ll surely be able to find one.


tenpsb- you used the term "certer"- what did you mean?

Ohh... Just that he does some diamond certification, or has been in the business long enough to know what the certification is/should be... he is a family friend

tenpsb- I mean no disrespect to the folks you''re talking about.
Let''s be very clear though- only GIA can issue GIA reprts, commonly ( and erroneously) called "certificates"
The reason this is important is that there are many dis-reputable sellers claimong their diamond have GIA simply because they have a "certer" in house.
NO SUCH A THING EXISTS.

There''s only 2 places to get a GIA report- NYC, and Carlsbad California.

Again, I''m not saying that''s what''s going on here- but I have spoken to many people who have had such mis-informatioon hoisted upon them.
A GIA trained apprasier looks at a diamond- is it certified? NO NO NO NO NO NO

Yeah the diamonds all have GIA reports (certificates), I am just going to have this guy look at them... and make sure they look good to his more trained eye, together. Also just have him give me a second opinion besides the guy I am buying from.

But I would not buy the diamonds without original GIA Certificates... thats foresure.

Seriously- it IS a big problem, and there may be folks reading this who could be exposed to such sellers- that''s the reason I point it out.
Of course none of the vendors here would do such a thing.
But it is common on the internet, and even on the street.
