After a long break and countless hours on this site I have decided to go with a three stone ring. My inspiration is Packrat's AVC three stone that I loved and kept coming back too. After her blessing I am going with a similar design.
I am pretty certain I will using Amcor for the setting.
It will be a smaller version as my stones are .33 K .41 J .33 K (stone spread is 12.2 mm)

Here are some details so far, I would love suggestions.

2.8 width shank plus a matching plain band both comfort fit, half dome
14K trying to decide between plated or unplated?
delicate milgrain around the stones (no small diamonds between as in second picture)
I am trying to decide about adding the little openings on the side like the fourth picture??

Thanks

Small, but I love them! Plus I can always upgrade in the future.

I am so excited. I love packrat's ring and I'm sure this one will be gorgeous as well.

For my taste, I would do 14k unplated gold, and I would not add the spaces in the shank. I much prefer the first shank pic you posted.

are you wanting a more vintage look or modern? I think the 3rd picture seems to lend itself to a more modern setting like the one you like.

very exciting, can't wait to see it!

OMG so awesome! I feel so special that someone likes my ring enough to do something similar!

I would vote for unplated. I love the color of mine. I like the idea of milgrain around the bezels too-it was certainly something I'd considered as well. Aaaand I like the open profile better, but that's personal preference.

Love it! Can't wait to see it completed. I love Pakrats!

Thanks everyone!! I'm super excited too.

Skippy, I'm really not sure what style I'm going for. I just liked this look, loved the AVC and decided in about one day a three stone would be a good way to go. I think you are right it does seem more modern.

Thanks Packrat for being so awesome!

I am leaning towards 14K white gold, only because it looks better with my coloring and I can't seem to get a good look of the 14K unplated.

But we'll see.

hey!

Sorry i saw your request for pics in that WG thread, but i dont really own anything thats plated WG besides my marquise, and the shank is too thin to really capture the difference in a photo. I like the idea of unplated for this project. Honestly i dont think anyone besides a PS would notice the difference right off the back, but the undertones of the unplated stones will flatter the undertones of your stones.

now sense you said you wanted suggestions, have you ever seen this? I like how the bezels are slightly separate, with the side stone facing at a slight angle.

Hi,

Thanks for the metal tip. When I look at your picture of the side shank view, it does seem pretty white. Now for a dumb question, when 14K is un-plated do you need to have it polished to shine it up or does it just continue getting more of a gold tint to it?
My Dad's wedding band is 18K white gold, and it's never been polished or plated so it's a gold color, I think it looks awful with my coloring. (it's 40 years old)Actually I think the ring looks awful it needs fixed up. I still think 14K white gold looks best on me.

As for that picture I already have it saved. I like that idea, I will for sure keep it in mind. Do you think it would look better that way since my stones are smaller? I wanted my ring to have a "band" feeling to it.

What a neat project! I also love packrat's UWG setting!!! :lickout:

I had the same experience with UWG as you are having. I looked at so many pictures of Yssie's set and the gorgeous UWG on her skin tone. THEN, I tried on some for myself at a local jeweler. :nono: It made me look pasty. Not good.

Of course white metals look fine on me...plat. and plated WG, but I keep finding over and over again that richer 18k YG and rose gold (either 14 or 18k) is the most flattering on my skin tone.

I feel like 14k UWG looks a little "neither here nor there" especially with a K diamond (I think it could have a nice softening effect on say an O/P stone) so I personally would stick to plat, plated white, YG or RG.

Good luck! I can't wait to see what you decide!

I just thought about this a little more and wanted to add that if you love the look of 18k UWG then you should just go for it whether it's THE MOST flattering on your skin tone or not. I found that when I stacked high carat YG bands with the UWG I really loved the look and it took the pasty look away. Of course this is just on me.

If you want it to loo like a band is there any chance you'd add another set? Make it a 5 stone? I find those look more like bands, if that's the goal.

18k will look more yellow than 14k as there's more yellow metal in it. And couldn't you just get it plated if you bought it unplated and it didn't do it for you?

Are other colors open votes? Because yellow or rose would be lovely.

I think my husband would freak out if I told him I need two more diamonds to make a five stone :naughty: although I do think GOG has two stones that might work. But I think I better stick to the three stone.
I also wondered if my ring could be done in 14K unplated and if I didn't like it just have it plated. I will check on that.
As for rose gold it completely blends in with my skin so that is out.
I don't love yellow gold on me at all, I also don't love or really even like the look of my Dads band. (which he doesn't wear)

Do you think the unplated 14K will enhance the J/K stones?

Haha tell your hubby the 2 25 pointers are so cheap they're practically free

No I really love your three stone idea. I just had to mention it sense you said you want it to look like a band.

I'm sure they could rhodium plate it for you if you didn't like the loo. The questionis if they would do it for free or a fee. (It would be similar to just having it replayed I'm sure) so rose gold is out. Is yellow?

My current setting has an 18k UWG head. Unfortunately I don't like the particular alloy which ended up looking too grey for me which gives it a dirty look that I do not enjoy. ERD is going to rhodium dip the head at no charge since I am not happy with how it looks. I would imagine most vendors would do the same.

I think it would be smart to have the cathedral in the shank like in the pictures above. It gives it a bit more of a flow then an abrupt end to the shank.

The reasons I chose unplated white were because I don't particularly like rhodium on my gold. If I'm paying for gold I want the gold to show through. But also I found the subtle tint of my stones matched better with the subtle tint of the stones.... And I just like the color

Yellow is out, my husbands band is 14K yellow gold and it looks awful on me. Matter of fact I tried talking him into white gold and he would not budge.
How will your ring wear since it's unplated? Will it get more yellow? Will it then need polished? Why is this so confusing to me.

As for the other two stones here is a picture of them, they are .31 and .32 the middle stone is still the same one but these two show off the middle stone a little. I am not sure how all five would look together? (wonderful probably, damn it)

I haven't worn mine enough to say I think. I do believe I have heard the aloud in gold can react with your skin oils and effect the color somewhat. But someone else will have to comment on that.

As to what it would look like with additional stones, I imagine something like this.
I don't want to make it spy like I don't love the three stone idea. I just think from knowing enough about what you're looking for in our other threads, the tiger coverage might be beneficial to you. Also how funny! I'm the exact opposite! I really weird NOT want my hubby to have a white gold ring. It would have looked so bad on him.

I believe some of these pics are packrats so hope that's ok. :)

I've got pics in one of the project threads of the avc five stone I had to begin with-they might be helpful to you.

I'm kinda pinky, as far as my skin goes, and have had plated wg and also yellow gold for my rings and they looked fine to me..mostly cuz I liked the rings, so I didn't really pay attention to how they looked w/my skin.

I'd never seen unplated wg but loved how it looked w/Yssie's ring, and sat and stared at her metal comparison pictures constantly. When I had my stones sent to SS, I did talk to Heather there about how hard a decision it was for me, choosing a metal color, and she put my mind at ease about the unplated w/the warmer colors.

Yours are higher colors than mine, but I would think the unplated would be just as lovely. I've not seen 14k unplated.

Oh that's lovely. You've had 2 inspiration things with the dots in the corners of the bezel. I know you said you wouldn't include that, but do you like them??

I get what you're saying about all the same size. I like that idea. It'll make a lovely three stone. Who is making it.

It does seem all of my pictures have those little diamonds, but no I really don't want them.

I'm having Amcor do this project.

Here are a few more pictures that have inspired me.

I can't quit figure out how the bezel will be with my stones, thicker like the second and fourth picture or thinner with the milgrain like the first and third picture. I like both looks, do you think I could have both the thicker bezel with the milgrain very close to the stone? I actually think that is what Amcor is thinking.

Sorry sorry I remember you saying they would make it.

Yeah I've seen bezels that were thicker and just had an inner bezel aroud the stone.

I snapped this pic for you this morning. :)

Thank you. Is the ring on the right 14K plated white gold?

Yeah.

Thanks, I am most likely going to go with it being plated.

Does anyone think I should really check with a 5 stone instead of the 3 stone idea? Is this 3 stone going to be small for my chunky finger?

I love delicate milgrain if whoever is making the ring can do it well. I also prefer bezels that are not too thick. I think it will be a gorgeous ring!

You do not normally polish gold at all. My original yg set was never polished. It stayed shiny forever. I would not polish unplated white gold, either. No reason to do that when they stay shiny with just the fine scratches/patina that develop over time (mainly on the bottom of the shank because the top doesn't come into contact with much). Polishing removes gold, so that is another reason to never polish. It wears away over time anyway where it comes into contact and rubs on things. The only downside of rhodium plating later that I can think of is that the surfaces that are against the stone, like parts of the bezel, won't get the plating. I would try to make the decision beforehand. For myself, platinum would be my first choice and then rhodium plated palladium white gold would be my choice for gold. I'd rather have the slight contrast between the metal and the stones rather than having them all blend together. But that is personal preference, of course.

I like the little bezeled rounds on the ends like you have in the second picture in a post above. I think that would add some width and be far cheaper than adding two more AVC's. Plus, I actually like it better. It's still a three stone ring with the little accents.

Did you inquire about having I sent to you unplated first to see how you feel. Easier to plate than unplate
