Hello, I''m new and needing some advice about settings please if anyone can possibly help??

I''m considering this ring as an e-ring (picture below, i hope, if I attached it correctly) but don''t currently know enough to know if this is a good idea.

I very much like the look of it, and its clean lines and simplicity, however some folk i''ve spoken to have warned me about lack of durability involved in only having 3 prongs (kind of makes sense if you consider many rings have 6 prongs). The person in the shop didn''t agree that this was any less strong than a 4 prong however because the prongs themselves are actually fairly wide/large compared to 4 prongs (the only other setting i''m considering has 4 prongs).

-What do others think - would strength/durability be an issue do you reckon?

-Also wondering if metal makes a difference in a ring setting of this type (platinum or white gold are the 2 options).

-FYI, stone size would be between .75 and 1.0ct.

-Does anyone out there own a ring of this type or have experience of it? Some handshots of people wearing a ring like this would be great too, as i''ve not been able to try it on so far.

Many thanks for help!

ps I ahve a couple more pictures if this isn''t enough

IANAJ (I am not a jeweler), but based on the picture, it looks like the stone would be pretty secure: the prongs are huge compared to standard prongs, and the construction of the ring looks like it would provide a lot of force on either side of the diamond, making it pretty secure.

Just my $.02

I think it is very different and would be stunning with that size stone. That being said it doesn''t look anymore less or more durable then a 4 or 6 prong. I agree with the shop I think it will be great! It really is a personal preference but that looks to be pretty sturdy from the picture Go for it if you love it!

The prongs look pretty solid to me.

As far as the metal goes, I''d go with platinum if you can afford it.

wow thanks for the fast replies. Good to know it''s not a complete no-no right from the start!

It''s so hard to know when a. you''ve not seen it in person, and b. the picture doesn''t necessarily contain the size of stone you''d have in real life (although it doesn''t look far off).

Pretty ring, nice and unique! I think that the prongs look like they are holding the stone securely, they are thick prongs.

Those prongs look plenty sturdy to me. I like this ring a lot, very unique.

Glad others like it too!

Just a few more questions:

Does anyone out there own a ring like this that could share pictures of it? I wanted to edit my message topic to ask this too, but I couldn''t figure out how to do it...

Also, do people that know about settings more than i do think that this ring could sit flush against a straight wedding band, i.e. wouldn''t need to have a custom band with a curve/bend in it to sit flush?

Thanks !!!!
