I like the value that the H/SI1 presents. Under magnification you can see some "carbon" spots. The question - how eye clean is this stone?

You didn't mention the prices for these stones. Assuming they are more or less the same, I'd take #2. I like the H/SI1 better than I/VS2 combo. (although both are fine. If there is another reason to pick one of the I/VS2s, that is not a bad combo.) The only real concern is the clarity, and the vendor says it is eye clean from fairly close up. All 3 have good HCA's. Net net, all 3 should be nice stones, so either pick the lowest priced one or pick based on another differeniating feature. I think the color/clarity combo is the most compelling of those in this case.

If you go with#2, make sure the vendor has a good return policy (no questions asked), just in case your definition of eye clean is different than thiers.

i think with this size stone,it will be very tough to see inclusions w/o a loupe.

lop, all 3 are so close to $900 that price difference is not a consideration.

fire&ice, the vendor looked at the stone while I was on the phone and she said she could not see the inclusion with the naked eye at 5 inches.

Nobody has commenting on the Idealscope images.

Which one looks like a better cut?
Are they so close that they are equal cut?

I think one vendor said they charge $450 for parts and labor for a pair of platinum 4-prong basket screw mounts.
(I''ll be getting only one)
I think another vendor said if you go with gold there is no fee.
Does this sound right?
Can it vary that much?

FYI Bluenile charged me $250 for a pair of 4-prong basket platinum.

I would not go with platinum unless you are allergic to something in the white gold. A pair of these settings (WG) should be no more than $125.00. If you are buying a 900.00 diamond than I would expect the vendor to charge for the setting - but not a hard and fast rule if they have an extra "one" e.r. around. If you buy the diamonds and the setting, I do not think it''s fair for the vendor to charge for the setting of the stone.

I would go for #2. I like the H/SI1 combo, and the cut looks great. I would go with a white gold setting -- platnium is overkill for an earring unless you are allergic. You should be able to get one setting and a set stone for much less than $450. (I''m thinking $50 - $150 max. I think mine were $150 for the set.)

I think they all would look great. Since my vision is more color sensitive than clarity sensitive, I would agree with lop (for some reason it seems like we agree a lot) and lean towards SI1 H. WG is fine as well. I went with platinum because my jeweler offered to mount a pair for less than $200, virtually the same cost as WG.

As recommended, I bought the .442 H SI1. ($907)
It will be set into a 4-prong platinum spring back and delivered Saturday.

Now I have two PS diamond purchases under my belt.
If you recall I bought a set of diamond earrings from Bluenile for Mom's Day.

Now that I have some practice the next rock is for me.

Time to study more.
