I have a Emerald ring on hold but I feel like I am not savvy enough about emerald cuts to ascertain whether it is a good deal. The side stones do not have certification and the ring is platinum. The price is $33k. I have done several searches of loose diamonds and I believe the price is very reasonable. Can anyone who has experience with emerald cuts weigh in on this?

stats below for center diamond: (GIA May 19, 2005)
measurments: 10.87x7.13x4.49
weight: 3.01
depth: 63%
Table: 69%
girdle: very thin to medium
polish and symmetry: good
clarity: SI1
color: E

SI1 is kind of low clarity for a 3 ct emerald. Are there visible inclusions? Heavy cloud(s)? So what are the side stone? For this price, shouldn't they be cert.? What is the metal (sorry if this has been answered. I'd want to know a lot more about it before deciding if it's a deal. It's a nice size keystone but this isn't enough information.

So you have seen the ring in person and the center stone is eyeclean? (It would be hard to find an emerald cut at that size eyeclean with SI1, but I supposed it is possible.) I wouldn't worry about the side stones not having certs as long as the cuts match and the color seems to match the center stone. I would NEVER buy without a return policy and I would have an independent appraisal done before I decided whether to keep it. The only other thing I would be concerned about is the part of the girdle that is very thin. You do need that checked because the stone could chip more easily.

OP, you just don't have enough information for us to tell you. If you are interested we can make a list of things to ask/ information to get. Then you can make an informed decision. Otherwise you're flying blind. Not the most wonderful thing to do in the jewelry industry. We would be more than happy to try to help you more but you need to work with us or nothing personal to you but we don't have enough to go on.

Without much information, we can't make any comments on it. The only comment I can make now is the very thin girdle with emerald cut or even with any other cuts for that matter. You are going to have chip issue on very thin girdle, I always try to avoid that!
