I requested a gemologist review of three diamonds from JA. I expected a lot out of the two smaller stones as they are AGS 000, true hearts. I threw the larger stone in there as a "why not" since I didn't see third true hearts stone that I was interested in. Furthermore, this last stone is GIA graded only (ie: no cut grade from AGS) and the ASET looks worse than the other two, to my untrained eye. This last stone however, seems to be the best according to the gemologist... Shocking to say the least....

Below are the ASETs and email from JA. Opinions? Suggestions?

Thank you for your patience in waiting for the ASET images and gemologist inspection for diamonds 388937, 382013 and 382006. I am very pleased to inform you that you have three stunning diamonds to choose from! They are all beautiful and eye clean. The gemologist said that diamond 388937,the 1.16ct I/VS2 ($4790) is exceptionally attractive. It faces up closer to an H in color and has excellent light return and brilliance. The overall brilliance of this diamond is the best of the three with amazing fire and sparkle throughout. The faceting is excellent, packing this diamond with loads of sparkle that is balanced nicely.

The gemologist found diamond 382013, the 1.02ct I/VS1 ($4450) True Hearts diamond to be a true I color and have very nice brilliance and sparkle. The facet pattern is very well balanced and this diamond has a lot of life as it moves. Rounding out the group is diamond 382006, the 1.01ct I/VS1 ($4400) True Hearts diamond. It appears as a lower I color, closer to a J in the face up position. It has very attractive faceting and a nice shape that gives it sparkle and lovely brilliance. This diamond does appear slightly darker compared to the first two.

Thank you for choosing James Allen and we are excited to see which diamond you choose!

It looks like you have picked 3 very nice stones. The aset on the first looks pretty good to me (just a different faceting pattern
than the other two. ) It appears that the color is also a little better on the first one too. What's the price difference? I think you need
to decide what faceting pattern you like the best and decide from
there.

What pattern creates more sparkles?

#2 looks great!

That's the one myself and many members on here thought would come back a winner. It sounds like the gemologist thinks the first one is better. How much would you trust their evaluation?

I would ask them about if there is any life in the X in the centre of table of the first stone.

As for your other question the first one would have more frequent and smaller flashes while the other two would have less frequent but larger flashes. All other things created equal one(they aren't exactly) one is no better than the other its a matter of viewer preference.

I'm wondering if they are pushing the most expensive stone first - I like the videos of both stones no.1 and no.2 but it depends on which pattern your eye prefers, I'd leave the third alone based on the face up colour.

The first one will tend to have tinier but more flashes while the second one will tend to have bigger bolder flashes due to bigger
facets. Just depends what you like to look at. It seems most people on PS like to see bigger flashes. The second stone is actually
my favorite.

You need to look at some of the different princess cut stones on James Allen and see what kind of faceting pattern your eyes are
drawn to.

I just realized the 1.16 has a knot on the face of the diamond. Is this an issue or something to stay away from? How much weight would you put on JA's gemologist reviews?

So what do you make of the JA reviews then? Many people on here suggested that I cant buy diamonds based on "paper stats" only. Should I trust the JA evaluation or go off the listed stats/ASETs? Think they're just pushing the most expensive one?

The performance of the stones seems to be very similar. So they picked based on color. The 1.01 I like above is the lowest in color (it's a low I they said). The one they chose is an H.

You have to ask WHY they chose they way they do, or read between the lines. Their comments amount to this: All of them are great performers, and color is the biggest difference, so we chose in order of color.

Ok, thanks! Is that knot something that would make you choose another stone or not an issue if not visible?

Knots: a "knot" is an included diamond crystal that extends to the surface of the diamond. In other words, it is a diamond crystal which reaches the polished surface of a finished diamond. With proper lighting and magnification you may be able to see the boundary between the knot and the diamond which contains it. Knots sometimes resemble raised areas on a facet surface or group of facets. Differences in the polish quality may be visible on the surface of the knot and the facet where it is located. We typically reject SI clarity diamonds for this characteristic because we feel that knots provide a potential durability risk to the longevity of the diamond.
From Nice Ice

This is a VS2 knot, as long as it is NOT anywhere near the corners, should be fine.

Have you "shrunk" the videos down to the approximate, true size of the stones -- that could help you decide which one is most likely to appeal to you in real life (for myself, I'd eliminate the 3rd one, #382006).
