I haven't posted yet, but have been lurking the boards for a while. I'm getting engaged...2nd marriage...and need help finding a diamond. When I got married the first time, shopping for diamonds on the internet wasn't around (yes, I'm old...lol).

Looking for a 2 to 2.5 ct round solitaire (have the setting, only need the diamond). Prefer nothing less than I, SI2...obviously better as the budget allows. The setting is simple, so the ring will be the true focal point of the set.

Looking for the best bang for the buck, but am clueless as to where to start. I'm a little leery of shopping online, but that seems to be what everyone is doing and where to go to get the best price.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Congrats! I'm on my second as well. =)

That's quite a size range! Here's a 2.7 with the specs you mentioned.

And if you want something a little different, here's a (smaller) newly-cut old style which I happen to love:

GOG is where we got my diamond, but there are a number of online retailers people have used successfully here.

ETA: it would help folks to know your budget

If you are willing to post your budget, there are some lovely PS'ers that would be happy to help! Otherwise, my personal recommendation would be to reach out to some of the usual suspects that are great at finding Diamonds:

Mark at ERD (who I used to find my Cushion)
Good Old Gold
James Allen

You should be particularly careful with an SI2, and ask whether it's "eye clean," when talking to any of the vendors... I might opt for something closer to the 2ish carat mark to ensure I had a really nice eye clean stone, you may consider going no lower than an SI1, for this reason... I would focus on better cut and clarity, rather than size, but it really will depend on what is important to you... but, again, without knowing your budget it's hard to say... I am all about the SIZE, but not at the expense of a bad cut or clarity...

There are many people on here that can help read ASET charts, so feel free to post them when you find something... I wish I could help in that department!
Good Luck!!

Thanks for the quick responses!

And to edit my original post....size is 2-2.5 CT. Budget is $20K

And that's great info on the SI2. Will be sure to ask if the stone is "eye clean".

Thanks again :)

If you already have the setting you should take it to a jeweler and get them to tell you the mm measurements of a stone that will fit it.

I second the poster that suggested Mark Turnowski - I am in your same boat - was looking for a diamond for a second marriage - did not know Mark when I bought the first one 20 years ago - but meet him when we were looking to upgrade my now Ex's ring and he was great - so I turned back to him this time around - I was looking for just under 2 ct - wanted the look bur not the 2 ct premium - he found me in a matter of days a great 1.90 G Vs2 stone at a very competitive price. He is just in general a great guy to work with and can be completely trusted from my perspective.

I ditto this. If your heart is set on using a particular setting, have it measured by a jeweler. Also some setting may allow a wide range in size (switching out peg head) while others do not, so it would be good to know that before you purchase a diamond. That may be something to ask the jeweler as well.

Good luck!
