Cushion Cut

2.17Ct I SI1

I am in the process of ordering the stone above (thats why it says sold) from GOG and was wondering everyone''s opinion. I plan to get my jeweler to copy the Novo ring or I might set it as a solitaire. Its not a perfect square but pretty close (~1.04 L/W).

Thank you very much!

GOG was awesome and even sent me a video. It compares my 2.17ct to a 1.7ct that is a square H&A (H VS2) and a 1.7ct (H VVS2).

Video *

* Video is in WMV format.

the shape is very nice. so much black/blue worries me, though... I''m downloading the video, but it will be awhile.

jon is very complimentary, so that's a good sign. looks pretty good in the video to me.

Can you explain what you mean by too much black and blue? Thanks!

I just watched the video!!! I love it!! I think its perfect!! Get it Get it!!!!!

haha thanks! I already ordered it. The decision now is to keep it.

Good luck! Looks like a great pick!

91% of the stereo light return of the best RB.. excellent for a cushion.
DiamXray looks excellent.
Aset looks vg-excellent for the cut.
IS looks excellent.

I think your going to love it.

Julie,
Remember that when the IS/DiamXray disagree with ASET on obstruction it comes down to the human eye at normal viewing distances to tell if it is really an issue.
I covered this in my asscher article on p3 angles and it applies to other cuts also.
My feeling is that this one is fine looking at the regular picture and the DC/Gem viewer images.

To give another "picture" here is a virtual representation in the lighting that I use when designing diamonds that I feel gives a good real world representation.

I thought that was really funny too. The 2.17 looked HUGE next to the others.

Thanks for the help. FYI...the first stone is about $17k, the second is $14k, and the third is $14k.

wow! this looks like a beautiful stone! congrats!

I''m pretty sure your girlfriend will be very pleased with this.

Good job!

Congrats! All 3 stones were beautiful but I would have picked yours too.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I will get the stone tomorrow. The GIA cert shows a lot of feathers, pinholes etc... but I guess they must be very small since its an SI1. Will report my thoughts when I see it tomorrow. Thank you!

So I finally got the stone!!

Stone is not eye clean. Took it to my diamond broker who is holding a stone for me and neither of could believe it was an SI1. It had a huge carbon mark in the corner that was visible even from the top. He showed me a similar stone he had and offered it for about $2500 cheaper. Left his office buying his 2.02 G VS1 canadian cushion. Stone looks almost identical to the center stone on the Novo ring. I am getting it shipped out of state for tax purposes but will post pics in a couple weeks. Thanks!

Wow. I''m surprised to hear it wasn''t eyeclean. So you are returning the stone to GOG? Sorry it didn''t turn out for you, but it sounds like the new stone you got will be lovely! Can''t wait to see pics.

That''s too bad. Now that you mention it, I can see the carbon mark in the magnified photo at GOG.

Well, at least you found a better stone with your broker (and for less)! I was also looking for Canadian stones, but couldn''t find any that I liked.

Yep good info!

That''s too bad that it isn''t eyeclean but it sounds like everything worked out for the better. I can''t wait to see the pics of your new diamond.

What is different about Canadian diamonds? Is it just because it is from Canada? I have no idea where my diamond is from - I just know "foreign market".

My understanding is that people like Canadian diamonds because they are not "blood diamonds" and it is a way to know your diamond came from safe and fair working conditions.

I sure hope I didn''t end up buying a blood diamond

. Can a vendor tell us where the diamond came from? I don''t think the bf will return the diamond whatever the answer is.

Supposedly a lot of diamonds from Canada are originally from South Africa etc... anyway.

Returned the stone to GOG. Going out of town Oct 10-12 and will pick up the diamond then (had to ship out of town to save on tax).

The stone I ended up getting cost more and has about 15% less surface area. However, it is much higher quality and the cut is much more like the Novo. The cut on the diamond resembles the H&A cut from GOG.

I am so happy for you. In the long run, you have the diamond you want and the extra cost doens''t mean that much.

If you don''t mind sharing, what does the diamond plot look like?

Does the new stone have a GIA cert? I hope so, but if not, you need an independent appraisal.

Yup, ditto.
