Wish this was mine... :::swoon:::

An employee of Sotheby''s displays a diamond of 28.03 carats (allegedly the largest fancy intense purple-pink diamond ever to appear at auction) in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday, May 10, 2005. This ring with the purple-pink diamond is estimated to fetch US$ 7 million (euro 5.45 million) at the Sotheby''s auction on Wednesday, May 18, 2005, in Geneva.

We could split it in half and have sisters

I just wish it was mine so I could pocket the 7 million minus whatever chunk Sotheby''s would snag...

dusting..bump

yah, the model is much prettier than the stone. recut-city. i also wish the color was more pronounced in the pic.

It is huge but I agree with everyone and wish the color was more intense.

Okay everyone, don''t be jealous, but I think I won that playing SkeeBall at Chuckie Cheese..

It does look like a candy ring!!

As a colored diamond fan, I do not like that stone.

I''d rather save a couple million and get something smaller and more well-cut :)

Sotheby''s often has some amazing jewelry but that one does nothing for me. I wouldn''t even spend 7Gs on it. To each his own *shrugs*.

Now, I have seen some huge yellow diamonds go through Sotheby''s that I would LOVEEEE to own if I were rich. I tried on a 5 or 6 ct. yellow diamond at a local store on my last visit. WOW. It cost almost as much as my house, so I''d have to live outdoors, but that warm yellow would keep me mighty toasty.

Here are some things from the auction that I DO like:

an 8+ ct. yellow diamond:

a 12+ carat Bulgari emerald ring:

A 45+ (!) ct. sapphire from Bulgari:

That sapphire - is divine!!

45 carats, wow!!!

I agree with Strmrdr, it''s definitely fugly

The Purple Pink might not be able to be recut, depends where the color is in the stone.

The sapphirre defnately needs recutting. Look at the ''window'' in the center of it. But saphs are even more apt to lose color when recut sometimes. I am commenting based on the appearance in the photo, assuming it is fairly accurate to how the stone looks.
