Mercy. $1.5 million.

On August 5th, 2008, TraxNYC has acquired what is arguably the pre-eminent yellow diamond in the world today, the ''Gran Canaria''. There are only 4 of these stones in the world. What makes the ''Gran Canaria Diamond'' so extraordinary and rare is its unmatched size, intense color and clarity. When weighing all these critical measures, the Canaria is peerless. Furthermore, unlike many other famous yellow diamonds, the Gran Canaria is certified by the world''s foremost authority, the Gemological Institute of America. The GIA certifies the Gran Canaria as a 27.59 carat Natural Fancy Intense Yellow with a VS1 clarity. The size, color and clarity are not the only distinguishing factors concerning the rarity of the Gran Canaria. The Canaria is also completely devoid of any fluorescence. Flouresence is common in diamonds and interferes with the flow of light making the diamond appear a little oily or murky. The Canaria''s complete lack of flouresence gives it what has been described as a supernatural appearance because of it incomparable brilliance. All these factors make the Gran Canaria Diamond the standard by which other famous diamonds will be judged by. This astonishing solitaire diamond is one of the most rarest diamonds in the world today. Its shear size luminosity and quality is unmatched by any other.

I know, you think they'd make more effort with such an expensive listing. lol.
I've come across this before Ninama, but I too wonder if they will find a buyer through Ebay? Seems more like an auction piece..

My goodness! Will probably end up with arthritis sooner than ever with that amount of carat! Huge.

That’s a good question.

The thing to remember is that an advertisement doesn’t have to result in a sale for it to be useful. It brings in viewers, it makes the dealer look bigger and better than they might otherwise and this helps to sell things that are more moderately priced. I think the chances of this deal ending with ‘buy it now’ is right about zero and surely the dealer knows this. The only real downside are the ebay fee for posting an expensive ad that doesn't sell, that is to say, $4.25. I’m not sure how effective it is at building traffic or credibility for their other items but it’s a cheap enough ad. We’re talking about it on Pricescope after all.

Very true Neil. Well said as always. Still weird to me to see something like that on ebay!

Thank you, Neil... I was just going to say "probably to get exposure, generate word of mouth, create a buzz", but it does sound better coming from you.

ALL DIAMONDS fluoresce when exposed to UV light.
Not all diamonds fluoresce within the visible spectrum when exposed to UV and we can only see visible light with our limited vision.

It is certainly possible to have a diamond with no visible UV fluorescence, but it assuredly is invisbly present under UV exposure.

To me, it is just one more big yellow diamond, of which there apparently are many. Thirty years ago, there were a lot fewer of these in supply. I suppose new mines have given us a larger supply or just possibly, some people are tinkering with the color of diamonds in some yet to be detected way.
