I would like to find a pair of 22K gold knot earrings. I tried Asian jewelry websites to no avail. I think it must not be a style which Asian buyers like. After a search (during which I would have been glad to find pretty much any knot), I found a pair of earrings (in 14K) which I love. Does anyone know from whom I could obtain these? Do Australian jewelers see a lot of 22K gold due to their proximity to Asia? Should I see if my local jeweler can make them by hand? I am suddenly enamoured with 22K and 24K gold. There is a French designer whose jewelry is for sale at Neiman-Marcus who works in 21K. That is very rich and yellow, too, but I certainly saw no knot earrings among her work. Nor did I see any in the Indian store where I bought the earrings I am wearing today! I will see if I can post a link to the earrings I like most.

These are the earrings I like. They are 14mm gold double knot earrings. Does anyone know where I could obtain them in 22K gold?

Deb,
I bet Tomatoe would know, why not PM her??

Yeah... those are cool. One issue with the model (my mother is crazy about these as well) is that handmade versions are solid rather than made of "pipe" like most commercial 14k and 18k versions. Nothing wrong with solid gold earrings except the weight - unless the knots are small they get really havy!

I am sure you could easily find fine 18k ones at any jewelry shop (and perhaps have them covered with 24 gold). These are pretty cool too

Thanks, kaleigh. I am actually friendly with another expert on "the real stuff", Hest88. If I go to a fellow consumer, I will go to her. I do not want to impose on a consumer if there is a vendor out there with a great pair of knot earrings for sale, though. I also did call my local jeweler, Jim Grunberger, and will see whether it makes sense to have the earrings custom made by his store.

Ana,

I think I had those Tiffany knots on my "wish list"! I have never purchased anything off my wish list, mind you, but I keep one just in case someone suddenly enters my life and says, "I would love to spend $20,000 or so on you at Tiffany"!!!

Couldn''t the handmade earrings be made with "pipe", Ana?

AGBF: I don''t normally keep a lookout for gold jewelry if I''m not buying but I certainly wouldn''t mind helping you to keep an eye out for them here. Pls don''t feel that you''d be imposing on me, it''d be fun for me too!

Tomatoe,

You are too kind! Thank you! If you stumble over a pair of 22K or 24K knots, I would love to hear about them! (Even If I have found another pair!!!)

Hugs,
Deb

AGBF, I''m probably going to be poppinig over to Chinatown next week, so I''ll duck into some stores and see what I find.

Couldn't the handmade earrings be made with 'pipe', Ana?
I suppose so... However, the 'pipe' (actually, it really is pipe, no need for "") comes ready-made as semifinished parts. I doubt it would be available in high carat gold since these are mass-produced pieces. Who knows ? Anything is possible.

Either old or handmade knots seem to be made either small or hollowed out, like the large ones below

The earrings you posted are not the look I wanted, so if pipe is not possible, maybe I cannot get them in 22K. I have no idea how heavy they are either as pipe or solid, but if they pull down one's earlobes the look is not attractive. I learned that with diamond studs that are too big! Thank you for thinking this through with me.

And, Hest, thank you!

Deb

AGBF, I went around to my favorite Chinatown jewelers today and didn''t see any knot earrings. They have so many different shapes now, but no knots! I''ll continue keeping an eye out, though, and let you know if I find anything.

Thank you so much, Hest! My local jeweler (in Stamford, Connecticut) is willing to make me a pair in either 22K or 24K. We'll see!

Deb

I found a pair of 22K gold knot earrings, but they were already sold. They are also *TINY*: 4.1 mm! I also learned some interesting things about gold in Thailand. I will try to post a picture of the earrings that were already sold. Here's the website to read about Thai gold!

Perfect size! Where are they ?

Deb I have not read all your replies - but a simple flash gold plating can do ythe trick - and you can have lighter hollow 10k or 14 k Italaian earrings that won't make your ears look like African versions
Even if you are in a hurry - CLICK THIS LINK http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.acrossindonesia.com/DayakLongEars.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.acrossindonesia.com/Kalimantan_Photo_Gallery.htm&h=603&w=420&sz=49&tbnid=7cnjn1CMHo0J:&tbnh=132&tbnw=92&start=76&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dlong%2Bears%26start%3D60%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26rls%3DGGLD,GGLD:2004-49,GGLD:en%26sa%3DN

How do you find these Garry !!!
... kind of out f context though. If anyone else shows as much dedication to wearing jewelry as some Pricescope folk, this lady surely does.

Yes... but this time I just cliked your link. Isn''t that the picture you were hinting at ?

Reminds me of the gold coin earrings of my Romanian folk costume (30 grams or so each). Getting earlobes snapped while dancing wasn''t all that unusual with such things on.

Gee, Garry, I sure do appreciate your looking out for me. If you hadn't mentioned the weight problem, I might have worn two pound earrings by accident and turned out looking like a blonde and freckled version of this INDONESIAN woman!

Deb ;-)

Ana,
Man that picture made my ears throb just looking at it!!!
