My company belongs to Youdecide.com

Which, I just discovered offers a 20% discount from ice.com and diamond.com

This sounds like it''s pretty fabulous. What do you guys think?

My gf wants a princess cut, she''s sure of that... I''m trying to scrape whatever I can to get her a half carat, because ... truthfully, anything .75 or less seems too small. She''s very thin, & also very tall... She wants small, but I want it to draw some attention to her hands. She has very pretty long fingers. heh :)

So, would you go for the discount? Or is it one of those fake discounts?

It might just be 20% off the setting...those things often don''t include loose stones, but worth looking into.

OH crap.

"Your special discount of 20% will be added to your shopping bag. Coupons are not valid with any sale items, engagement rings and items under Hollywood Jewels. "

What''s that about?

And that was from ice.com

And this is for diamond.com

Any one know of any way around this? WHY engagement rings? You give me a good price for an engagement ring, I''m so coming back for my wedding bands, and anniversary rings...

Or maybe they''re banking on the high divorce rate? lol

With regards to ice.com Looking at thier inventory I don't see that your able to select loose stones and then have them set (which is what most people on this forum tend to do). Clicking on a few of thier engagement rings shows that most of them are I1-I2 clarity which means you would definately be able to see flaws in the diamond itself.

Check here for more info on clarity:

So I would say even if you were to get a discount it still seems pretty iffy.

Looking at Diamonds.com they do sell loose stones which presumably couldn't be considered an engagement ring so a 20% price break there could be more interesting.

Thier loose stone pricing doesn't seem horribly out of the ballpark of reasonableness. However determining what a 'good' princess cut diamond is is thought to be a more difficult task than say a normal round diamond. So a vendor such as whiteflash gives you a lot more information about each individual stone your considering right off the top. Perhaps diamond.com would send you some additional data prior to purchase so it could be the same.

For reference: http://www.whiteflash.com/princess/Princess-cut-diamond-114416.htm# Shows a 1/2 caret princess with some of the photos of the actual stone under different lighting so you can gauge how 'sparkly' it will be in real life something that is helpful if you can't see these in person. A similarly specced stone was priced the same at diamond.com.
