Which one outperforms the other one? Both seem so close that I am unsure, need some help... The color seems to be a small issue and the symmetry.... can anyone help me about the angles and percentages?? thank you guys, you are all so helpful!

Both are very well cut stones. Just based on numbers, and for the same price, I would pick the first, as it is GIA certified so you can be certain it is really a G color.

Symmetery of VG is fine. The naked eye cannot tell the difference between the VG symmetry of this one and the Exc of the other.

ST is star percentage and LH is lower half facet length. Those are measurements for specific facets on the diamond. They are also fine. If you want to learn more about what those numbers mean, we could find some links.

thank you for getting back to me so quickly! Does the symmetry of VG affect the brilliance or fire in any way when compared to EX?
What if I could get the second diamond for 6500? Would that make it a better deal than the first for 7000?

Nope.

Is the GIA cert and G color worth an extra $500? Only you can decide that. If you are ever planning to sell or trade it, the GIA cert is very helpful. If not, buy the stone that speaks to you, regardless of certification. If I remember right, you liked this diamond viewing it in person, it is just that the appraiser felt it was an H color, correct? In that case it is a stone you know you like and if you can negotiate the price to be on par with other H-VS2''s, then it would be an excellent choice.

Just to add to Jet''s excellent posts, with the first one being sold as h&a can you get images from the vendor - particularly hearts images? These are very important in order to be able to judge the overall cut precision of a h&a diamond.

Was the appraiser who looked at the Gemscan stone independent (i.e, not selling diamonds?) Just a note that this is important to consider when taking his/her opinion into account when comparing the two.

In Canada Gemscan is by far the most common lab, and apparently highly reputable.

I think you need to just look at the two side-by-side in lots of lighting conditions to make up your mind. They both pass muster based on the numbers, now it may be time to let your eyes decide.

Hello all, thanks for the replies...

The appraiser is indeed independant and does not sell any stones whatsoever. It is the Gemmological center GEMS in the Montreal jewlery district.
i had them look at the second stone as well and they found no symmetry problems so gave the symmetry grading excellent instead of vey good. They told me that for the same price the gia stone is a much better value...while for the second stone (the H one) it is a good deal if the jewler sells it to me for $1000 less, which I know the jeweler will not.
So I think I will go with the first stone after all... any last words before we forever hold our peace?? lol

Sounds like you have done your due diligence looking at and comparing these stones. Go with the one that you like, get a beautiful ring made and then come back with pictures.
