I am having a 1 carat pear set with a halo. The jeweler said the diamonds are .02 or 2 pointers. Does anyone have photos of a 2 pointer halo with a one carat diamond or close to one carat? I'm nervous they will appear gawdy around the diamond. Please!

That sounds large to me. Have you seen examples of halos by this jeweler? Because if not, I urge you not to do it. This is the style pave halo most here do (unless you were going for antique style which would add other recommendations).

Someone who has one can comment better on size of the pave, but I think it is 1mm or less, probably. There are other vendors who do them, as well.

IMG_0096.JPGHi I have a 2 carat pear that Victor set using half pointers - it emphasises it beautifully without taking away from the centre. 2 pointers will be too big on a 1 carat unless it's the look you're going for? I think it will look less engagement and more cocktail if your pave is too big.

Here's a thread with some halo rings saying the size of each halo, not specifically the melee size, though. The actual stones are probably slightly less.

If you go down to Frankie's 7th post in that thread, she discusses melee size and shows some drawings.

" i was not aware of the "size" of the melee per say, but LM's - 1.7mm meleee on the halo, SK's - 1.1mm melee on the halo, VC's 1.3mm on the halo. i was told the as a general guideline, the melee size is basically the width of the band / halo you desire minus about 0.2mm ( for the metal part, even if you want to have an all diamond look with no metal top down). i had this discussion with VC while planning this final setting and he sent me adobe illustration digital "sketches" with 1:1 ratio of my center stone. one with a 1.5mm halo and one with a 1.7mm halo, both viewed top down with a 1.8mm shank. we did not discuss the melee "carat size", but discussed more so on how wide i wanted the ring shank / halo to be seen top down and VC went on from there with the appropriate melee sizes."

Thank you. I am working with Good old Gold. I think maybe because I am doing a plain band he suggested that size? I really am not sure why though. I mostly see the smaller halos on the internet. I am having a really hard time finding photos of this size of halo.

Wow I was able to see the sizes in each halo in this thread. Super helpful! I do hope he can find the setting for me at good old gold. I'm nervous about having my diamond shipped elsewhere. We discussed the width and the shape of the band as more flat since the original setting he showed me from Timeless had more of a knife edge to it. He agreed the 1.7 width would be good. I messaged him about a smaller halo. Im hoping he can find something else or make the change. I don't know if they are making it or if it is preset. They have been so patient so far and also found a beautiful diamond with minimal bow tie.

Ahhh, okay great! Glad you are working with Good Old Gold! Let me ask you a question. What is your budget for a setting?

Looking to stay under 1500. I don't mind going down to 14 karat white gold. I want a plain band with a pear halo. We definitely want the beautiful shape of the pear to steal the show. The diamond I selected is in the link.

I am not sure custom is really an option at that price point. You'd have to know if they were making it custom because you'd have to approve the design (and post here before approving!).

Here is one that is close to your budget that they can order. I'd just ask for nice claw prongs and not balls. I am assuming they would not go forward with ordering any setting without your approval, right?

Your pear looks beautiful!

The BGD Kristin is either 2 or 2.5 pointer. You could ask them to verify what they use in that setting and what size the center is in their photos to get an idea of proportions.

Thank you. I am wondering if they will be searching for one to order as well. He responded and said he would have someone render my diamond with the different halo sizes and show them to me on paper and on a finger. I can hardly wait. He may be setting me up for a custom setting, I did ask him in the beginning if they could have a setting with plain band and halo for under 1500 and he said yes because most of the settings have diamonds down the band. We may have drifted from that at this point with the different request of halo size though. I will definitely post here. He has showed me this setting in photos with .015

Okay, sounds good! I look forward to seeing the options they come up with!

krisi, I hate to say this, but in all candor, I would be very leery about going custom with GOG for a halo ring based on this thread from last year:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/help-me-with-this-cad-please.219871/
Seems the OP subsequently removed the pics of GOG's CADs from the thread, but I think you can tell from the initial horrified comments that they were gawdawful (the 2nd round of CADs was better, but still not very appealing).

Maybe GOG is using a different CAD designer-bench nowadays, but regardless, I honestly don't think you need to get into the custom rigmarole for a halo'd pear with plain shank (which I happen to think is a terrific combo). Also, since you've purchased the pear from them (it's lovely), don't hesitate to ask GOG if they can do better by you pricewise on a Gabriel setting or any other "brand", including their own. Jewelers often discount the "sticker price" on settings for a customer who's purchasing the center stone from them & I know GOG has done that in the past re, e.g., a Beverley K setting.

D564AAAF-6E48-4653-B961-C13369C4F092.jpeg So I wanted to come back and post what I ultimately decided on in case any one ever wanted to see what it would like like. I ended up having the diamond sent to Adiamor for the Halo. I decided to have the diamonds on the band to make shopping for a wedding band a little easier. I am very pleased with how it all turned out. I probably would have like the smaller pave but I couldn’t find one in my price range. It is slightly cocktail but I am totally okay with it and it doesn’t detract too much from the center diamond. I am lucky enough to have a dream engagement ring that catches light beautifully and has character. I love it. I wear a 6 3/4. The center stone is 1.01 and somehow it still looks a good size. I think it looks just slightly larger in photos but it has good coverage considering the size of my finger. And I have large hands! These details are in case anyone is on this site looking for details such as these when looking for an engagement ring. This site was so helpful for me because I live in Alaska and there are very few pear diamonds and none set in a band. It was sheer faith that I would love this ring because I am super picky and didn’t get to try a pear on! 3C260ABF-8846-439D-BAC9-BC5E720389AA.jpeg

How beautiful and elegant! Your ring is gorgeous and looks stunning on you.
I do like this melee size for your ring. It’s not slightly cocktail to my eyes. It’s a very elegant ring.

This turned out great -- thanks for coming back to show us!

It looks great!

Beautiful! So happy for you!

Very nice. Doesn't look cocktail to me. It's lovely. More pics are always welcome
