Hi ace

I would first find out if either of these two are eyeclean to your standards, then if both are said to be eyeclean I would probably lean towards the first one, but some more info would be good please - the star and lower girdle facets and the girdle thickness for each please. Do you know what the grade setting inclusions are for these SI2 such as feather, clouds etc?

Girdle is Medium on both diamonds. Let me see what I can find out on the stars.

Does AGS have a place to plug in the report number to see the stars like GIA?

on the 1.65
Star length is 48%
Lower Girdle Length is 79%
Girdle Faceted 1.4 to 3.6%

On the 1.77
Star Lenght 52%
Lower Girdle Lenght 75%
Girdle Faceted .9-3.7%

Both look good, prefer #1.

Number one is on the way. I just emailed the vendor. Thanks for all the responses

I definitely prefer #1.

One of my ex-sidestones was similar to #2: T-57.7, D-60.1, C-32.8, P-41.

I never saw coloured flashes unless I was in direct sunlight, and even then they were visibly fewer and further apart compared to the other sidestone (C-35, P-40.8). I like fire, so this was a definite "to avoid next time" for me, but that''s just my preference.

Good luck. :)

Thanks ace, still the first one for me.

Well diamond #1 was not eyeclean. So diamond number 2 is still available and I have another one offered to me today. Any suggestions between diamond 2 and 3

diamond number 3
1.66 ESi2
7.64-7.69x4.64
Depth 60.5
Table 56
Crown Angle 35
Pavilion Angle 40.4
Star Length 50%
Lower Half 80%
Girdle Thin to medium faceted 2.5%
$8940
cut very good
polish very good

Quite shallow pavilion. Check for obstruction issue.

Definitely check for obstruction with that pavilion as SC says, ask for an Idealscope image and see if the vendor can check the diamond for this. Obstruction is where a diamond with a shallow pavilion or what we call a shallow/ shallow with shallow crown and pavilion angles can look dark when viewed closely due to the observer's head or body blocking the light to the diamond.

Got some info on another stone
Diamond 4
1.64 I VS2 $9100
Cut Excellent
Polish Very good
Symmetry Very good
Depth 60.6
Table 58
Paviolion Angle 40.6
Crown Angle 34
girdle med- slightly thick
upper star 14.5
lower 43%

Also what should I look for to ensure going to an I color with still be white?

diamond four
star length 55
lower length 80

as far as star and lower lenght go. What should I be looking for when trying to find other diamonds

I have been using the holloway cut advisor on all diamonds I find. I just knew there was a place to put in the star and lower girdle facets. Is there anything specific I should look for. All of them show up below two on the cut advisor.

Nope, below 2 is promising. Lower half adds a bit more information to the stone, useful if the stone is borderline problematic. If images is available, just use the HCA score, then request IS image for those that score below 2.

It depends on the diamond, this info is useful to have but the critical crown and pavilion angles are the main determining factor. Normally 50 - 55% for star and 75- 80% for lower girdle facets will be ok.

The HCA is used for rejection not selection, just input the 4 numbers requested to find out which are worth further consideration - those which score below 2 - and then ask for images such as ASET or Idealscope for final selection out of those diamonds. Normally scores between 1 and 2 are in the sweet spot.

I am having another stone brought in to look at. Any opinions on this one? I sure hope this is the one!

This will be diamond #5 now

7.63-7.68x4.74
AGS 1.71 I Si1 $9500

The HCA doesn't take the star and LGF's, just depth, table and angles. The aim is to score below 2 then evaluate from there with images such as Idealscope or ASET.

The diamond you listed last looks promising, if you could get images for that one it would be helpful, check also if there is a cloud noted on the clarity plot, if so then check it isn't impacting brilliance. The comment " additional clouds not shown" shouldn't be a problem but if there is a cloud drawn on the clarity plot then you need to check it out by asking the vendor.
