Hi All,

After seeking some valuable initial advice from Pricescopers, I have now two diamonds in mind for my partner’s engagement ring. I am limited to purchasing from this one vendor - hence, unfortunately I could not find too many ideal diamonds, however these two seemed the best of the bunch (Hopefully they’re not both duds):

Criteria: 0.9, Great cut so it shines & Eye clean

Option A
GIA 6214487559
HCA score 1
https://www.gsdiamonds.com.au/diamonds/product/lj54-6871101076_2960618

Option B
GIA 1375369929
HCA score 0.7

https://www.gsdiamonds.com.au/diamonds/product/edli-ld21012474_2681642

What would be the best option from these two? I’m leaning towards A, due to bigger than usual size for carat size, cheaper and because the 360 video is viewable - inclusions seem acceptable, should be eye-clean if VS2? however maybe I’m being too lenient here - I see a slight black/carbon crystal when magnified? (strangely option B, 360 is not viewable, however it is VS1).

Any advice will be most appreciated. Thank you all in advance.!!

Ok, could see the GIA for the first diamond. Video doesn't work. B/C it's a VS1 I probably would not be worried about the inclusions. It's a 60/60 diamond, so it will probably return a lot of white light. And it's a D so it's gonna be white anyway. If you like lots and lots of white, the first one will give that to you. How lively it will be, I'm not super confident.

Second diamond - cannot see GIA or video. But based just on data provided, I think this will be more lively, and you will get more fire. Given that it's already a D, I think you will get plenty of white from it already.

Personally, if I had to chose with only the data available, I would probably try the second one because it would give me more fire (I hope) and it's plenty white enough since it's a D. I wouldn't choose the first one because I want more than just a flat white diamond.

Looks like you can return, so see if you like it.

Thanks so much LLJsmom, your insights has certainly left me more undecided Haha! Slightly leaning towards Option B - as the VS1 should be more eyeclean? should better cut make diamond look just as big/brilliant/perform better vs VS2. For all it's worth, Stone Algo has Option A as a 9.1 Excellent score vs Option B as 9.5 Ideal.

To further assist:

Option A 59/60.5 34/40.6VS2

Option B 55/61.8 34.5/40.6

I have to make a decision later today. Any further advice will be invaluable. Thanks in advance Pricescopers

Sorry short on time today. most VS1s will be eye clean. You will need to check with VS2, but you can return if not "eye clean" to your satisfaction. I personally am open to VS2 because usually eye clean, lower price point, and cut more to my taste.

The third one you linked is also 60/60 type, which is NOT my preference, but could be preference of some. generally 60/60 returns more white light while the #2 can get your more fire (again generally).

"Better cut" depends on your preference. If you want more balance between fire and brilliance, #2 gets you there. If you lean toward all white light, #1 and #3. On PS, usually ideal type diamonds are #2 type. So you need to decide what is "better cut" to you.

Hope others can provide more details. Look up super ideal diamonds to get an idea of the type of fire and brilliance balance that a lot of people on PS prefer.

Option B, I love the specs on the VS1

I'd definitely choose B, too! Very nice stone!

Just thought I would provide you all with an update – A Curveball has been thrown =o !!! The Sales assistant and her management have acknowledged that the Option B Diamond parameters are great, however they have personally reviewed the diamond and they believe the diamond has an unusual haze at the top of the table – hence they would not recommend me the diamond – and as such a money back guarantee (MBG) will not apply. They've now released the 360 degree video on their website aswell. See link:

I do not know whether to believe them or not to. However, I am not willing to risk purchasing it without the MBG (unless many PriceScopers are saying that they are more than likely lying).

As such, with Option B (more than likely now eliminated) I have proposed both the following options to them:

The same Option A: 59/60.5 34/40.6 VS2 D Color
GIA 6214487559 $7455
HCA score 1
https://www.gsdiamonds.com.au/diamonds/product/lj54-6871101076_2960618

Or

Option C: 56/61 34/40.6 VVS1 F Color
GIA 6371735566 $9593
HCA score 0.6
*360 video is being sent to me tomorrow

My deciding criteria, in order of ranking:
1. Want to shine the best and be eye-clean.
2. Price

The Sales assistant has confirmed that they do recommend the two above – and the MBG will apply. However, they will not recommend one over the other – suggesting for me to factor in clarity vs price.

What are your thoughts on the two? Thanks so much guys. Is the additional $2,000 worth the diamond being completely mind-clean eye-clean and possibly having a great balance of fire/brilliance/scintillation (than vs more whiter light)?

Fingerscrossed, I’ll be able to sleep on it and knuckle down on one :)

Do not buy anything without a money back guarantee.

Stone A isnt good (IMHO) so I dont recommend it at all.

Option C is promising, see what the video looks like.

I personally wouldn't buy without a money back guarantee. If you are in the US, then there are so many places to buy a diamond, there is no reason to buy one in a way that is risky (ie without being able to return it.)

@lovedogs and @RunningwithScissors appreciate it guys - all the way from Australia =)

I had a good chat with my partner and she wasn't too fussed with angles/%'s of diamonds, however she did agree that she prefers the visual look of smaller table %s - saying they look more diamond-like i.e. She likes visually Option C 56/61 over A 59/60.5. That eliminates Option A yay!

Once I receive the 360 video of Option C (hopefully today), I'll be sure to post up here too - and keep you guys updated. I'll also reconfirm MBG applies. Sounds like a plan! :lickout:

Also, to make things easier for everyone - here is the info available for Option C for now:

I have now received the video for Option C: GIA 6371735566 Please see url:
I am sceptical why they wouldn't send a more closeup 360 view... Is this because maybe symmetry of patterns is not great? They have also not granted money back guarantee (don't ask why... so annoying).

It's making me reconsider Option A: GIA 6214487559 which has very similar specs - just cheaper. However, the jeweller said that this one is 'hazy', they do not recommend the diamond, hence no money back guarantee.

Any advice will be invaluable here. Thank you all=)

Do not buy anything without a money back guarantee, period. I would honestly find a new vendor.

As an update, it was a long journey, but we ended up with a great result Yay!:

Option B, GIA 1375369929; 55/61.8, 34.5/40.6, VS1 D with the guarantee of a MBG [after a little bit of sweet talking Haha - finally !!!]

This is the diamond that you guys recommended the most and was the best available from the vendor that I was limited to. I'm so happy I did not let up on the MBG. If I don't reply from now on in, consider that we are very happy with how the diamond looks IRL. For the short time that I've been on here - you guys have all been so supportive and the threads on here have been invaluable to the end result.

Forever thankful to you all! :wavey:
