I've been looking at diamonds for an e-ring with my girlfriend. She wants a marquise diamond and we've decided on a pave set setting. I was shown a marquise diamond with pretty good stats; it looked nice and was eye clean (to me and the gentleman helping me). Please let me know what you think of this diamond given the stats and what you would think it's worth. One thing to note is that it is graded by EGL USA.

Marquise
2.01 CT
Color: E (I did read the review that EGL USA tends to grade slightly softer than GIA/AGS on color)
Clarity: Si1 (appears to be eye clean)
Measurements: 12.97 * 6.61 * 3.98 mm
Depth: 60.2%
Table: 55%
Crown: 14.8%
Pavilion: 39.8%
Crown Angle: 32.7 degrees
Pavilion Angle: 39.2 degrees
Girdle: Very thick faceted (my main concern)
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: Faint Blue
Culet: N/A
Cut Grade: Very Good

The reason why I say the girdle is my concern relates to the AGA grading: http://www.gemappraisers.com/oldcutgrade.asp

Everything is 1A except is 3A. How much would that take away from the diamond?

Thanks!

Probably was done to get the 2 ct mark. I'd try to get a discount.

I wouldn't worry too much if you like the diamond, you often see wider girdle variances in fancy shapes plus it could only be a very small area which is very thick and not an issue. Use the numbers as a guide only otherwise you could miss out on some excellent diamonds if you get too hung up on them, beauty can't always be found using charts!

I would suggest you make the sale final on the diamond checking out with an impartial appraiser, here is a tool you can use to find one in your area.

As to pricing the best thing you can do is to get an appraiser's opinion as to what would be a fair purchase price. You can compare online pricing by using the search tool above by entering the specs of similar, bear in mind brick and mortar jeweller prices are usually higher than online.
