As the title states would you do it. So I had the 2.5ct I BG Signature set in a platinum tiffany half round and the I colour did not bother me, all I saw was white bright and beautiful stone, I could see the tint from the sides which didn't overly bother. I currently have a 3.2ct G which is unset, to be 100% honest although I don't have them side by side I don't believe there is much of a difference with my eyes atleast. Granted it does look a little whiter, certainly not much bigger. So with all that said I am considering upgrading to the 4.31 J. I would set this is a simple platinum solitaire, I actually really love the Vatche Swan, which I would have got originally but stuck to BG design.

Im just curious what people whom like the near colourless range would do. I am going to upgrade at some stage that's a given, I want over the 4ct mark. I believe with these current prices H will be out of the question. So it leaves I and J. I colour I know I would be happy with but many people say J is a big jump tint wise.
I have attached a pic from BG of a 4ct H blue and 5.38 J

Once again thanks guys :)

I'm not color sensitive so everything up to I is colorless to me. I do see a tint in J which would bother me in a ring but not earrings. So I'd stay in I if you are ok with it.

I'm in the same boat as BabyMonster. Maybe you could set it in a way that would mask the color?

Very nice quandary! I wear a 5.15ct J and I can't find a tint from any angle, in any lighting, as of yet. I also wore a 5ct J, with no fluorescence, and it showed slight color from the profile view. That said, at the recent show, I tried on an 11mm K, and it was even more white than my J. Go figure. I've learned to focus on what appeals to my eyes and avoid getting boxed into one side of the color chart. Wear what you love.

Good luck in your search. I hope you find the right one!

Hmm thanks ladies. I really feel I am just bashing my head against a :wall:
As much as I want size if Im honest with myself I am just better off waiting for an I colour to pop up. I just need to be grateful for the beautiful stone that I got and have some patience  and enjoy it.

Thanks RandG I think my biggest issue is not been able to see things in person. I just like what I like when I see it, as we all do, but it sometimes seems what I like in pictures is not necessarily what I love irl and visa vera. This particular J is not also cut yet, so I cant exactly compare that stone which is a bugger :(

I would personally stick to a I color in a MRB. However, I love my J colored AVC b/c it is a antique cut.

What happened to your VC reset?

Normally, I would say that the difference between an I and a J wouldn't be all that much, but I can see more warmth in the J (at least in your picture). If you're okay with that then go for it:)

I can totally relate. You're in a good spot. I'd wait too. Always happy to post pictures if you think it will help, but ultimately you just need to see H,I,J stones up close and personal so you can get comfortable with how color can vary. Also, in my experience, larger stones hold and disperse color better, if well cut. I just went to Tiffany today (for a locket, but I tried on some 3-stone rings...very bad girl). A 2.58 H, was not as white as my 5.15ct J, and even the sales associate made a point of calling the floor manager over to show him.

Hi Mom2boys glad you popped in, I always love to hear what you think.

VC reset I haven't reviewed that yet as I had ideas going on in my mind. However just briefly since you asked, its true, those emilya's are gorgeous!! My problem is I refused to think that my lifestyle wouldn't suit this setting. I can get away with wearing it because of the cz which actually looks pretty good. But Im actually fairly rough and I train twice daily most days, predominately powerlifting so all rings need to come off anyway. But when I do volunteer work with dogs and dog walking which is often I need to remove it. I have discovered the actual reality of my lifestyle and delicate setting in the last 4 days, and I don't think its going to play nice. Its gorgeous and I am funny enough thinking of keeping the cz in it for now atleast and just wearing it when I go out and on the weekend when Im not doing most other things. Im thinking of putting my stone back into a simply solitaire....yeah I know I obviously have money to burn right  But I want to wear my ring more not just for an hour a day. So its over to Vatch I go for a cheaper daily setting. Im not the sharpest tool in the shed sometimes

Hi Momhappy. Yes I agree with you regarding that picture but because that's not the actual stone that's what makes me think. Sometimes stones can be so different.

Thanks RandG I appreciate that. I think my whole problem is not been able to see the exact stone. Honestly I can trust a H, pretty much trust an I, hmm ask myself if I can trust a J. From the picture above I don't think I take that particular J though. Sounds like you are really lucky and have a stunning white J, lucky you, and perhaps a beautiful 3 stone on the horizon

We've all been through indecision on this forum. I've made some costly mistakes, too!

Well, if your lifestyle does not support a halo for an ER, then you should stick to a simple solitaire which is what I currently wear for an ER. I am able to wear it everyday w/out worry.

I personally think you should branch out into other fancy cuts for a RHR! :naughty:

Thanks mom2boys for making me feel less like a dill

I am now just contemplating which solitaire to go for I am thinking Vatche swan or the popular U something, like a tiffany.
I do not want to spend anymore than 2k at this stage that my limit, or I think my partner will shot me

Yes yes I do want that rhr, but for me to be happy I know it will have to have some size about it so Im holding off on that one for a wee bit. However I have been thinking of going with a uprong ring 20 or 25 pointers, but we will see, Im now unsure with that, not that I don't like them.

Just wondering, diamonds of this size are a significant capital investment.

I'm not sure where you're located, but wouldn't it make sense to take a quick trip to see the diamond(s) in person?

Personally, that would be the ONLY way I would make the decision.

I would take the bigger one in a heartbeat!

I agree with this entirely. Or have Ty diamond sent to a local appraiser or something like that.

Exactly my thoughts regarding a modern round brilliant (and AVC's).

Thanks guys for all of your responses. Honestly Lesley did tell me she didn't think I would be happy with the J color so she was honest with me, I just keep on trying to convince myself I think. Honestly in that size in a MRB I don't think I will be happy, as it is I was wanting to go to a H, but by the time I get around to it I think an I is all I will be able to achieve.

After hearing even more opinions, especially from a few lovely ladies that I always take note of (well, most times  ) I am now completely removed it from my mind. I have a gorgeous 3.2 ct G and I am going to set that in a simple solitaire setting until my last and final upgrades comes around, weather that be 6 months or 3 years. I will then have VC make another setting for me, however it will be a solitaire setting and I will actually make the trip from here in OZ to the US.

In the meantime with the exception of the Vatche setting and possible a 7 stonish uprong ring Im done with all this diamond hunting for a while, time to save for that final purchase.

I know I have come across as a complete pain, mind changer ect but nobody here gets me with this diamond thing so I need to talk it out somewhere, so I appreciate all your responses. :D

Maybe I will just start one more thread...Which Vatche setting   That's it then for a while I promise

Trust me, most of us have been in that position! There are hard decisions to make, and most of us do not have jewelry friends locally! So this is exactly where you need to be to get help making decisions! I find that it is much easier to give advice than it is to make my own decisions! I think you are very wise to enjoy your beautiful 3 ct stone and wait for an I color upgrade!
