I bought this spinel about a year ago, and I have been meaning to set it since I love the color. There's another thread on this stone, but it color changes to tanzanite purple in incandescent light. Here's a photo of the new stone set with my other two favorite spinels.

The new ring is in the middle, and I dare say, it's a little more blue and saturated than my violet oval, which I adore and wear every day.

Beauty, really really.

Thank you LD, JewelFreak.

In incandescent light, it look remarkably like tanzanite.

Lovely, TL! I really love the way it looks in the rose gold.

So beautiful. I love the color and the setting. Spinels are awesome and you have a great one. Congrats

The spinel is gorgeous. I love the setting, I would like a small glowy round ruby in the same setting.

really cool stone!

I have to agree....the blue/purple is gorgeous in the rose gold...mmm, got me thinking about a violet color sapphire I have...rose gold...I think I may have to do that. BTW, do you mind sharing where you found the setting? :twirl:

Hi TL,

Love the color of the stone and the setting. You do pick the blues better than most.

Annette

Okay, here's what I'm thinking: you become an agent for the seeking masses. They tell you what they want, you source it and the setting with your eye and deal making talent. Then Kenny comes along and photographs the whole deal.

It is great in the setting, and it is striking the change that occurs in fluorescent light. Is it a Tan stone?

Oops, make that incandescent light...

And to think that you used to abhor spinels....

Boy am I glad to see    things have changed.

Love this stone TL. So happy to see you're enjoying it.

Stunning!

I love the deep violet color. Definitely different from your oval.

Thank you all so much for the kind words!

For those curious, I apologize that I forgot to mention that the stone is from Tan, and the setting is a lan.b04 (one of his stores anyways). I'm very happy with the metal work and the diamonds. It's pave all over the place. He has this setting for various size stones, but I have found he is very willing to do customizations. This is for a princess cut stone, but this particular spinel is more of a squarish cushion, which I think works well in there. It's a fairly hefty setting too. I don't think it's lightweight, and the gallery is very pretty.

Yes, Freke, I used to hate spinels because I never saw a good one in person until fairly recently in my gem collecting. Thanks to Pricescope, and all you spinel lovers out there, I finally saw the light!! As they say, "better late than never" :-)

It is lovely, and it does look like a tanzanite! Beautiful ring. Congratulations!

2.25 ct. Wow!

Thanks Crasru,
The thing about this that I like over tanzanite is that it has remarkable brilliance and luster, in some daylight lighting and angles, it is reminicent of a blue diamond to me (see fourth picture from the top). I also like the durability. This is like the tanzanite I can wear everyday. ;-)

Wow, TL, you have the most wonderful collection. And I love the color of that stone under fluorescent lighting - beautiful!!!

Beautiful stone - I especially love the tanzanite like colour under incandescent light.

Thank you all once again. The "tanzanite looking" photos above were taken in incandescent lighting. :))

Freke,
Yes, I think I have a spinel addiciton now. Is there a "spinel anonymous" group? This doesn't include my eight spinel rings.

Here's a gallery view of the ring before the stone was set.

The color is so pretty TL-love it w/the rose gold a LOT! I am *dying* to do a lavender/violet color w/rose gold!!

Thanks Packrat, and thanks again to everyone that such kind things. I took some more daylight photos. I was in the grocery store with it today under very strong fluorescents, and it was a gorgeous saturated indigo violet, but I didn't have my camera with me. The stone also has nice dispersion, and I get some red flash out of there, but the camera doesn't photo dispersion too well. I would say the tone is medium for a blue spinel, so it doesn't black out or go completely extinct at all. It's a very photogenic stone IMO, and since my camera skills are putrid, this is a fun gem to photograph. Thanks for looking!

My jaw just dropped looking at your spinel collecton - wow - lol. That's a lot of pretties there!
Can we get photos of your other 8 in rings? :D

The incandescent colour of your new spinel is amazing! It’s a different colour shift than your other oval that you love but pretty in its own right.

Thanks Chrono.

DivaRose,
Thank you.
Here's a collage of all my spinel rings. The bottom right trillion bypass ring is not set yet, but I will take it to the jewelers this week. As you can see, I have a pretty bad addiction. :o

oh my goodness your collection is just .... i have no words. *bows down*

WOW. What an amazing collection. You have quite the eye. I dare say I love your newest set one the most! It looks so posh.

Edit: but then there's that purple pear, and the round in that stunning setting...

What a fun dilemma you must have, deciding on what pieces of jewelry to wear!

TL - absolutely gorgeous spinel collection. It's not an addiction by the way! It's a necessity!!!
