Hello everyone. It's been a while since I've been here last.

I am helping my future brother-in-law to shop for a diamond. He is looking for something in the 2+ carat range for under $15K. I found him this stone which the vendor says is brilliant & white & fabolous & totally eye clean. Can anyone please offer opinions on this cut? Thanks!

GIA certified

Measurements: 8.18 x 8.23 x 5.06
Carat: 2.12
Color: H
Cut: Excellent
Polish: Very good
Symmetry: Very good
Depth: 61.7%
Table: 57%
Crown angle: 35.0
Crown height: 15%
Pavillion angle: 40.6
Pavillion depth: 43%
Star length: 45%
Lower half: 75%
Girdle: Slightly thick, faceted (4.0%)
Culet: None
Price: $12,622

Numbers looks good.

Is "very good" polish & symmetry okay? He''s worried about them not being "excellent".

You sir, STILL owe us pics of that drop dead gorgeous ring you had made!

Ok, I''ll help, but I have thought about this ring a few times, wondering if you''d ever post it. I really wish you would, I know I am not the only one who wants to see it.

The stone definitely has potential, but I''d want an IS on it, and preferably a Sarin report. Any chance of that?

Polish would be fine, Symmetry is debatable. Could be or not...

Hi Ellen!

Sorry about the pics. Once I proposed, it set off a whole stream of events. It's been a lil crazy! I will post some pics and tell the proposal story later today though. I promise.

I will work on getting an IS and Sarin for this stone.

Thanks!

VG in polish nothing to worry about, VG in symm depends on what you want, but if you have an IS/ASET of the stone, I would not worry about VG in symm as it is possible to have a H&A with VG in symm.

Too funny!!!

Ditto Ellen, and concerning the polish and symmetry.

The vendor says there is no need for a Sarin since all the specs are on the GIA certificate.

Idealscope will be done tomorrow morning. I will post it then.

Ellen, I posted some handshots of my fiancee''s ring HERE.

If you''re feeling frisky, tell the vendor politely, no, they are not. That report has 2 angles that are rounded. We have no idea what the true measurements are.

If however, you''re not feeling frisky, I won''t blame you. Not loving that response though.... Now that I look over the specs again, I don''t see the clarity. Is this an SI2?

Yes, you are correct, it is an SI2. Sorry for leaving that out.

Can the vendor do the sarin? Or does the stone have to be sent to an appraiser or somewhere else? Which angles appear rounded?

depends on if the jeweler has the machine.

Also GIA round the table size too.

If the vendor has a Sarin machine then they can do it for you, alternatively find an appraiser who has this technology. GIA round the crown and pavilion angles which are the main issue and where detailed measurements are needed, the Sarin will provide those.

Need a IS, The actual lower girdle % would be nice but I can likely get it from the IS.
The problem with this combo is the GIA rounding.
There are some lesser combos possible in the rounding.
Likely the cutter did a good job and it will ok, hopefully the IS will tell.

VG/VG is not an issue.

Again, thanks for everyones help! I hope to have the IS tomorrow morning.

Well, it seems everything was covered while I was admiring your ring.

Will wait to see.
