I found a 2.1 ct
E
Vs2
81 facet Diamond

The Cert was from EGL. I got it appraised from AGA to see how much the insurance was going to be and also if the Cert matches the clarity and the cut.

The AGA appraisal came back and the cert matches the Clarity, Cut and Color. Should I be satisfied with the EGL cert based on second opinion. Or should I look for a GIA cert.

Thanks

Looks good then, I don''t think GIA will grade a 81 facet cut stone on cut grade.

Congratulations,

If your objective is to be confident that you are receiving what you paid for and to provide documentation so that your insurance company can replace it in the case of a loss, you’ve already got what you need from AGA. EGL has very little to do with it. Assuming that it’s not for sale, you have no need for additional lab documentation.

I keep hearing that EGL grading scale was very loose. Thank you for your comments.

They are less stringent than GIA and AGS, but that doesn't mean that they're wrong. That's what you hired the appraiser for so now you're relying on AGA's advice, not EGL's. They enjoy an excellent reputation. If you still have further questions or concerns, by all means call them up and ask.

From my personal experiences, EGL scales are def. "softer." I was given a 1.26 round to set into a pendant that had an EGL cert of VS2 and H in color. Just didn''t seem right to me so we had it recerted by GIA. It came back as a borderline I color Si2.

My b/f and I have been looking at stones for several months now for my engagement ring and without fail, most stones I look at that have EGL certs. have appeared to be misquoted. When I line them up next to the GIA cert. diamonds of the same color or clarity, they never match up. It''s actually gotten to the point where I asked to no longer be shown the EGL''s b/c it was becoming annoying. BUT, that does not mean that that EGL is bad by any means!! I simply wanted to share what my EGL experience has been. I do have a close friend who went through the engagement ring buying process several years ago and got an EGL cert. emeral cut that she had recerted by GIA and it came back very very close to being the same. I think the polish was off by one grade.

It''s important to remember though that a cert is just a tool to help guide you. The BEST way to get a feel for a stone is to see it first hand, spend time looking at it under a variety of lighting conditions, take your time, ask questions, bring someone with you if you want asecond opinion while in the store and if it doesn''t feel right, with or without a cert. -walk away!
