Hi, I have 2 princess cut 2.01 ct that my boyfriend and I are looking at

from the #'s standpoint, one looks superior to the other one, but when i physically look at it, the other one looks better

so is looks or # better?

GIA

6.95 x 6.85
depth 70.2%
table 81%
G VS2

EGL

6.96 x 6.85
depth 74.5
table 70%
crown 11%
pavilion 60%
G VS2 (although the color might be a little more yellow than the GIA one, but the clarity & inclusions are similar)

the price difference between the 2 is 2,500$

after reading all the tutorials here, the EGL looks better on paper, but in person , the GIA was more sparkly....(the EGL one seemed more "gray" than the GIA, the GIA was more"clear" if that makes any sense)

please help!

any suggestions at all? should i wait and get an idealscope? we kind of told the jeweler that we would put a down payment on it tomorrow

I think you go with the one you like, the one that grabs you! I am NO expert about all the stats on a diamond, but I know what I like! You say one has better numbers but the other looks better...which one is the more expensive one? Which one would you like looking at? I had diamonds, when I was looking, that sounded good on paper and in person I did not like something about them...so obviously, do not buy something that is really off, but ask yourself, which one do I respond more too?

Have you read up on here about EGL, if it''s EGL USA better than EGL Israel. The grading can be loose. You liked the looks of the GIA stone better, go with your eyes. Princess cuts are not my forte, so hopefully those that are will chime in. Good luck!!!

the ''better'' one is the one you like more, without a doubt. if you were not completely in love with either of them, keep looking. there are plenty of diamonds available. don''t settle.

I agree use your eyes, you will know when you find the right one, it needs to make your heart sing ( or close to it!) If the GIA diamond looks the best that is the one I would go with, but you need to be sure, so see what else is out there.

You have provided only limited information, but going by the numbers the table on that GIA stone looks much larger than is normally considered desirable. However I think princess cuts are hard to judge by numbers alone, so if you have seen it and like it that is more important than any certificate.
