2.0 ct Princess or Radiant

Hey there,

I love this forum... and I'm just starting to learn all the jargon about the difference between AGL and GIA, and I think I have a peripheral understanding of the HCA rating and the use of the IS. I also understand that AGS 000 = cut, color, clarity rating. And I think cut "000" is often loosely confused and used when talking about the AGS rating, rather they are merely talking about cut much of the time.

I'm sure there is a 1000 more items I havent picked up on yet, so please bear with me.

I'm looking to purchase a 2 ct ring, preferably a radiant (my gf said she like that one the most) or else I was thinking a princess as a backup. I'm confused at

1. The differences between the radiant cuts and how to pick the best
2. Can a radiant be otherwise considered a princess if it is cut incorrectly
3. Is a radiant generally more $$ than princess or is that not true (all things equal, cut/color/clarity)

Also, I would like to purchase a high quality stone so I'm guessing I'm looking for ideal and AGS 000. I was looking at ACA from WF and found this (it doesnt say white clean thought)

I realize the color is not the same, but does that really mean 6K jump in price. Wondering what the HCA of the JA stone would yeild?

Finally, I really like WF ACA stones, they seem like a bit more $$ but a safer bet. Why cant I find any radiants that are ACA at WF? All I could find in my range was

However, she said she wants a radiant and those are two different things! (The reason you see AGS Ideal princess and rounds at WF is because they have those stones cut for their in-stock stones, and those are their primary sellers and their specialty.)

The best radiants I have seen are at Good Old Gold. Here is one example:

The Lucere Radiants are the prettiest radiants I have seen, but this one is the only one in your size range. You might want to call Good Old Gold and see if they can access any more from their cutter. This is the kind of radiant I would want if I were looking for one:

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll take a look...

In the mean time, I visited a local (and allegedly trusted) B&M shop this past evening. The sales staff ofcourse assured me that they only carry ideal diamonds and they stand my their name, la la la...

Anyway I looked at a 2 ct Radiant and got hold of the AGS report, can anyone make heads or tails out of this, I know there is no HCL calculation. I tried Dave Atlas's calculator but couldnt understand the output... here it is:

Measure: 7.45x7.33x4.56
Weight: 2.018 cts
Total Depth: 62.2%
Table: 58.4%
Girdle: Extremely thin to slighty thick
Culet: pointed
Polish: excellent
Symmetry: good
Color Grade AGS 1.5 (G)
Clarity Grade AGS 6 (SI2)

To the right looks like a pic of the rock with the following
Crown height: 12.4%
Crown angle: 33.0 degrees
Pavil height: 47.2%
Pavil Angle: 33.9 degrees
Girdle Thickness: 0.0 % to 4.4 %

They said that they would try to get the Ideal Scope for this or another similar one.

Any thoughts on this one? I know you really need to see it but I really dont know what I'm looking for.
