I'm looking at a 2.01 carat loose round cut stone. Is has I color and I1 clarity. The specs are:

diameter 8.4mm
depth 56.1%
table 64.0%
crown angle 27 degrees
pavilion 41 degrees
culet .5%
girdle is sltly thick to thick

I used the HCA and it recommended not to buy due to the possiblity of the girdle chipping. However, it has a slightly thick to thick girdle...The asking price for this is $7600. What do you guys think?!?! I'll be looking at this stone in the next few days and would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

The cut is the worst I can recall seeing on here in over 6 years, to be honest. That stone basically has a flat top with almost no crown. That is why it will be very prone to chipping. Not to mention I1 clarity is generally not eyeclean. Please spend your $7600 on a nicely cut 1 carat to 1.3 ct. stone. I wouldn't even consider looking at this one.

In a word, "Yup!"

There are actually two warnings on HCA, the other is that of a fisheye.

So, is it the shallow crown angle that ruins this diamond? Anything else that is stand out about it?

Although the clarity is an I1, the jeweler told me that the inclusion is "prongible", meaning the main inclusion that makes this an I1 grade can be disguised by the prong.

Light performance is what concerns me the most... Any/all feedback is welcome. Thanks so far, keep the comments coming!

Large table gives you the fisheye warning. The low crown angle (anything under 30 degrees) gives you the chipping warning.

Re light performance, if you google "diamond angles" you will find images of shallow vs deep vs ideal cut cut diamonds with illustrations of how light reflects. I hope they will help you understand the effect of good and bad angle combinations. THey sure helped me :)

^THIS.

I told the jeweler my concerns about the fish eye. She assured me that there is no fish eye on this diamond. She also said the girdle was slightly thick to thick. She said she would allow me to see the diamond with several other ideal cuts side by side so that I could compare them. I asked her if there was an Idealscope or ASET image, and she said no; but she did have the lab use a SARIN machine on it and I could see the report on it.

thanks for the input so far!

Remember the jeweler has a financial stake in this - they're trying to sell you something; if they can pull the wool over your eyes they will.

The numbers on this stone are terrible. We already know it will have poor light performance. And with the possibility of girdle chipping and an I1 inclusion - prongable or not - I'd definitely pass.
