I''m finally ready to proceed with purchasing a loose diamond for an engagement ring, and have followed many discussions here, and the helpful advice that has been given. I am looking for a diamond with basically the following specifications- 2.0 carats or slightly over, ideal cut, color of G,H,or I, and clarity of SI1 or SI2. I would like to spend between 13 and 15K on this diamond. Any and all suggestions are welcome, I have seen many people steered in the right direction through this forum, and I hope to be as fortunate in finding the perfect diamond. Thank you.

That stone Sc posted is perfect. Just make sure to discuss all the inclusions and to see if it''s eyeclean to your standards.
Not if you want size. The higher you go in either clarity or color, the more the stone will cost. It is kinda tricky right now. Conversely, if you'd go down in either, it will lower the price. If you want the best cut, I'd suggest looking slightly under 2 cts. If you want size more than cut, it will maybe be a bit easier to find.Date: 5/27/2009 2:02:17 PM

Also, would I be wise to move up and consider a VS2 or VS1, instead of a SI1? I am happy with the I color. Thank You, Joe.
No, honestly. After you hit the 1 ct. mark, and especially by the time you get to 2 cts., it really takes a lot more weight to make a noticeable size difference in the diameter. So in my honest opinion, I wouldn't let this one get away if you are interested and it checked out. And, this is coming from a gal who is not into size as much.Date: 5/27/2009 3:39:39 PM

Thanks, Ellen. I definitely wanted to stay above the magic '2.0 carat number'. Your last selection really seems like a winner. I don't mind spending more than 15K, however, the only thing that concerns me is going up to 2.27 and appearing too pretentious. We keep a low profile , and maybe I am worrying about a non issue, will 2.27 really look that much larger than 2.0? Maybe if we could get closer to 2.0 with a 'I' color might be a good compromise. Also, does anyone have thoughts on the HCA scale? The 2.27 diamond scores 1.8 on it, which indicates an excellent score. Thank you, Joe.
Gotta watch out for those lurkers! You might keep an eye on that one while you are waiting for an IS on the other. Sometimes a customer puts a diamond on hold and then ends up not buying it. If you let JA know that you are interested and the other person doesn''t finalize the purchase, they would probably let you know.Date: 5/27/2009 1:58:35 PM

I would like to thank everyone for their help, unfortunately, before I could reserve it, it would appear that another viewer reserved it before I could, the diamond is gone. Is there a second or third choice I could consider? I will be around all afternoon and evening to act quickly in the event that an alternative is suggested to me. Again, thanks to all, I really appreciate the advice I have received, and read about here. Joe.

Ellen''s recommendations all look good, as well.

Hello everyone, I'm still waiting for the IS from JA, in the meantime, one other diamond has been suggested to me, and piqued my interest. Any and all opinions on this one are appreciated. It is a little more expensive than the other two, however it really seems like a winner to me, also, and possibly worth the extra $$$.

Here is the image of the 2.03 diamond from JA as well. This diamond did not score real well on the HCA scale, I think it was around 2.4, while the 2.27 was a 1.7 on the HCA. Should I rule this one out? Thanks, Joe.
Ditto, looks like this one might have had some painting/ brillianteering done but that isn't always a bad thing if so, if you can post the info that will tell us more.Date: 6/3/2009 11:49:00 AM

Got it. I swear, I thought I clicked every link before asking! And is it just me, again lol, or is the diamond image coming up for the grading report? I'm trying to get the angles.

joedirt, can you either post the crown and pavillion angles from the GIA cert (I assume JA sent you an image of it and that is how you got the HCA number), the GIA certificate number, or a jpg of the cert? Thanks.
