I am in the process of buying my girlfriend an engagement ring and need help with a particular cushion I found. To my eye and my parents eye it looked great; sparkled in all the right places. Here are the stats

GIA rated
Cushion Brilliant
Measurements 6.2 x 5.96 x 4.11
Weight 1.20 carot
Depth 69%
Table 68%
Girdle Thin to very thick, faceted
Culet Large
Finish Polish Excellent
Symmetry Very Good
Clarity VVS1
Color Grade G
Flurecence None
I have no clue what girdle table and depth a cushion should be and I have read multiple threads, guides with different opinions; what I am concerned about is the table seems higher than what must people seem to like; After staring exhaustfully into the diamond in white light and normal light it seems great to me but I really have no clue!! I am worried with the table percentage to high it might seem dull in low light, Both of my parents who also saw the diamond think I am nuts. But with everything else being exactly what I was looking for (which I know is rare) am I being nuts?

The report date for this diamond was also in 2005; should this concern me? Any help to this newb would be greatly appreciated. I also don''t know if I am overpaying.........my gut says no........but who knows

Table is a bit bigger than I normally like, but with fancies this is certainly NOT a dealbreaker. Depth is fine.

To save some serious $$$ you can comfortably drop to a VS2 clarity without seeing anything. But again, personal preference.

I don''t love that the girdle is so varied, but again, not the end of the world since it''s not "extremely" or "very" thin.

But really as you have probably seen before, cushions need to be seen and if you loved it when you saw it, it''s probably fantastic!!!

If you want to know if you''re overpaying, use the "search by cut" feature above, enter your specs, and see what PS vendors are charging for the same stone.

Just my .02 in addition to what Neatfreak said. You're eyes are more important than anything else.

Your cushion is facing up (mm size as opposed to carat size) smaller than I would like as it's depth is 69%... but that could just be because the type of cushion you are looking at is meant to be cut deep. Personally, though given the polish and Sym values, I think this is a modern cushion... so I'd prefer a depth closer to 60-66 to gain spread.

I personally would also prefer a smaller table (60 and under) if it were me.

VVS1 is overkill, BUT as fancies are hard to find... you take what you can get. If you are going to consider others... I would definitely look into VS1 and VS2 stones.

hey crystal99. I''ll pipe in too...my FI proposed to me with a 1ct cushion and he loved it...but I personally found that the table was too big and that I wasn''t getting the fire that I like in a stone.
I agree it''s personal preference, but as a cushion owner - I''m going to agree with everything aformentioned by neatfreak and gypsy.

:) hope this helps. Good luck!

This could be the right diamond for you, but if you have done only limited shopping, I''d suggest spend several more trips to various jewelers and websites before making a final choice. You now have one diamond to compare others to, at least from memory. Look at others and see if you begin to become discerning about the brilliance and relative visual size of the diamond for its weight.

This diamond has a large table, is somewhat deep, and has a very thick girdle. None of these things are "good" features as single components, yet none disqualify it as a potential purchase if it is the best one you can locate. If you are impulsive, you may come to regret not shopping more. Once you have done a fair job of shopping, then make an informed choice.
