Hello Everyone. I am a newbie. I was referred to this website, and it''s awesome. Some of the diamonds I have seen on this webpage are absolutely gorgeous.

So here is my question. My fiance and I didn''t know much about diamonds when he purchased my engagement ring. It''s a .50 caret, I1, H. I am not sure what the cut is, since he bought it from a mall store and they seemed to not know what the cut was. Although it''s a pretty ring, I would like to upgrade to .75-.90 caret diamond solitaire. Possibly an ideal cut or very good cut, S1 in clarity, and an G-H in color.

Anyways, I am thinking about ordering a diamond online. I have seen some really beautiful diamonds at The Blue Nile and Diamond.com, and it seems like I am getting a better value for the money. But I am a little nervous about ordering a diamond ring online. I am afraid that I won''t like it once it arrives, and I will have to go through the long process of returning it for an exchange or refund. I am also a little worried as to who will inspect my diamond every 6 months to make sure there are no problems with it , as well as clean it. What if something happens and I have to get the ring repaired? Who would I go to? Can anyone ease some of my concerns please.

Thanks in Advance Everyone!

You would need some more information on this stone - crown and pavillion angles in particular. You can do a search at the top of this page for the same carat weight, color, anc clarity to see what like stones are going for. Good luck!

why not chose your diamond from one of the online vendors who will send the diamond to someplace local for you to check it out BEFORE buying it?

and, if you deal with some of the vendors from here, they have amazing reputations and you at least one thing you won''t have to worry about is what happens if you don''t like it and need your money back -- from what i''ve seen and heard here, it''s a rather pain free process.

i understand your concerns! i would say that any reputible local jeweler can do your inspections and any adjustments that need to be made, just know your diamond so you can be comfortable that you''re getting back what you dropped off - i would say this regardless of the vendor you choose.

Good luck! Can''t wait to see what you choose!

How do I find a vendor who will send a diamond to a local jewelry store to let me see it before I buy it?

ask them? if you love the diamond you found at diamond.com then you should ask them if they''ll do it - it never hurts to ask, the worst they can say is ''no'' right?
they might not send it to a local jeweler, but consider a local independent appraiser.

i THINK WF will send diamonds to a local appraiser for you to see - i seem to remember that being the case from when i was shopping for my stone - what part of the country are you in? maybe some of the PS vendors are in your area?

More info is needed to really determine cut quality and the crown and pavillion angles are crucial for this. Some vendors describe their diamonds as Ideal Cut, Premium or Excellent or Good, but you really need to know what criteria they are basing this on. The depth and table measurements are a start, but not enough to go on, as the crown and pav angles, or percentages even, will help to show how the diamond performs, i.e. how the brilliance, fire, scintillation and dispersion are, how beautiful a diamond is.

Cut quality to us PSers is always crucial, especially as buying online, you are unable to see the diamond first. Now, a diamond doesn't need to have a " perfect" set of numbers to be beautiful, as many have proved, butthe numbers are so important to be able to weed out non performers. Many of the PS vendors if you look on the vendors page, will have many diamonds available, plus cut quality info so you can make an informed choice. Also read the tutorials under knowledge, which will help you to learn what to look for. Regarding maintenance, may of us have local people we trust who will check prongs and clean and care for our rings etc. It is just a case of finding someone you like and trust. Whatever diamond you get, have an independant appraisal done during the return period, most vendors will encourage you to do this. Hope this helps.

As an example, this I SI1 http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-1948522.htm# looks good from Whiteflash.

This one http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-2323661.htm# an I VS2 also, a little more money but a great diamond.

A J VS1 well within budget http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-1948524.htm#
