Hi all,

My fiance bought me the perfect ring! Yay! It is a round H&A in a 6 prong solitaire setting. The stone sparkles like crazy and love her! The problem is, the metal. I noticed after a couple weeks of wearing it the metal has gone from white to yellowish.

I knew that white gold would yellow over time, I just did not know that it would happen in a matter of weeks. it has been about 2 months now, and it is very slowly getting worse. Is this normal for the metal to change colors in weeks? What can I do about it? Should I let the vendor know?

Thanks!

It is possible depending on your body chemistry.

Maybe get it totally clean up and replated again and see if it yellow in the same time span?

Definitely let the vendor know, they should be able to replate it, sometimes it can happen with some folk due to skin chemistry issues or it could be that something happened during the process itself. Have you been using an ammonia based cleaner for this ring? This can affect the plating. Did the ring come from one of the vendors here or was it a jewellery store?

Yes, it is from a Pricescope vendor.

The yellowest part is on the outside rim furthest from the stone (if that makes sense). The inside (the part that touches my skin) still looks pretty white. I guess the outside rim furthest from the stone would be the place that would get the most "worn" on anyone just from holding things.

I have not used any ammonia based cleaner on the ring. I have used a soft toothbrush with a drip of dish soap to clean under the stone once.

Do you know about how much it would cost to get it replated?

My wedding set to my first husband was white gold, and the way it worked with my skin chemistry, it started looking yellowish after just a few weeks. I got my new wedding set in platinum for that reason.
