15 ways of avoiding Diamond Shrinkage Syndrome: DSS
1. Clean your ring often so that it always looks its best and brightest and biggest.
2. Set your diamond in a ring with a thinner band. The marked difference in the diameter of the diamond and the diameter of the band will make the diamond look larger.
3. Wear your diamond ring every other day. Every second morning it will look as it did when you were first given it.
4. Take a photo of your diamond ring with your phone. You’ll see the ring from a different perspective.
5. Take a photo of your diamond ring but in the mirror. You’ll see it from a very different perspective.
6. Take a photo of your diamond ring and post it on Pricescope. You will notice how nice and big it looks.
7. Lose a little weight. Your diamond will look larger in comparison with the width of your fingers.
8. Attach a magnifying glass to your ring so that the diamond always looks larger than it is. Do take care on sunny days not to accidently set fire to anything.
9. To avoid setting fire to anything take a photo of your diamond, print it at twice the size and superglue it to your ring. You will look like you possess an enormous diamond and everyone will be suitably jealous. (When the diamond starts to look small again you can print the photo at four times the size.)
10. Expand your range of friends. If all your friends have 1 carat plus diamonds, and the average diamond size is 0.38 carats, you’re missing out on a lot of interesting people.
11. Always arrive at restaurants early so that you can spend 20 minutes positioning the spotlights so that they all point at your diamond. This will ensure that your diamond looks bigger and more sparkly than another other diamond around the table.
12. Sell your diamond ring and buy a smaller diamond ring. This makes a statement that you are not going to be controlled by material possessions.
13. Remind yourself repeatedly that diamonds are only crystallised carbon. They are beautiful and fun but unimportant compared to the giver.
14. Make sure that any future diamond ring is not only from your partner but also your children. Trust me, if your children have helped choose your ring then no other ring will ever compete with your ring.
15. Stop comparing your ring with rings on Pricescope, Weddingbee, GOG, Whiteflash, Blue Nile, James Allen, Brian Gavin, Tiffany, Cartier and De Beers websites quite so often. You have more important things to do than make yourself envious. Just remember that your ring is the best ring in the world.
