14K or 18K gold for band and prongs

Hi

having a look at some of the vendors I notice both 14 and 18 K gold being used for yellow and white gold, can anyone chime in what is recommended for a custom setting (therefore I get to choose) and why.

The band will be YG and the prongs WG, any mixes I should be aware off, what is better in terms of durabilit.

Hmm... if you''re doing a two tone piece, I would use platinum for the prongs, they are more durable, and 18k for the band. The 18k gold has such a nice rich color.

Yeah, everone says that about platinum, but I have had my old set with WG heads for 14 years not one issue, my platinum eternity after 1.5 years had several stones lose that needed to be tightend, so I am leaning toward the WG, unless i was just freaky and very unlucky

Depends on how the rings are build and who build them. Eternity are always more prone to loose stones just because there are more stones and it is more prone to come into contact with hard surface than a solitaire ring.
