Typically 14K and 18K gold is used in better quality jewelry (as opposed to 10K). They each have their own look with the 18K yellow gold having a brighter, more yellow look. It also scratches more easily than 14K yellow gold. The look of white gold will depend on what other metal the gold is alloyed with. White gold is typically rhodium plated to give it a bright white appearance, but this will require routine maintenance with replating to keep the shiney white look.
