Hi All,

I've been a long time lurker (and 1-time poster) here and now I write to both ask advice and to document my new journey. I am only in my first year, but I want to start putting together my 10-year anniversary present to my wife--an 11ctw tennis bracelet. I plan to source a diamond or two at a time every 3-6 months over the next 9 years, putting them all together during year ten into a platinum setting (exact style tbd).

I decided to go with 30 pointers (roughly 4.3 mm) which I figure will require about 36 or 37 stones to make a 7" bracelet. And while I know I'll get flack for this, I am limiting the diamonds in the piece to ~0.30 RB D VVS1/2 No/Faint Fluor (GIA XXX/low HCA/AGS0 cut). I know for a fact my wife will not care about or notice the increased color/clarity, but I want this piece to be something truly special (at least in my mind).

So, intro aside, I purchased the first stone in the set from Blue Nile (yes, I know) with the following specs:

Carat weight: 0.30
Shape: Round
Cut: Sig. Ideal
Color: D
Clarity: VVS2
Depth %: 61.7%
Table %: 55%
Crown: 35 degree
Pavilion: 40.4 degree
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: Faint
Measurements: 4.31 x 4.28 x 2.65 mm
HCA: 0.6 (XXXVG)
Price: $921.00

I think this stone (for a BN Sig) has good symmetry and decent H&A--at least much better than most of the BN Sig. In-person its an absolute cracker! (I originally bought a 0.24ctw D VVS2 XXX - GIA 6167782996 - which scored 3.9 on HCA, but it was too small and just didn't perform like this one does - the price difference while large is definitely worth it to me.)

So, now to the question, was this a good buy (for what I'm looking for)? I find that many of the PS-recommended sites don't carry nicely cut stones so small and with the color/clarity I want. I have many more diamonds to buy so any advice on where to go for the future would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Finally, I will be updating this thread with each new purchase along the way, as I hope this forms a journal of sorts. I welcome any and all advice/comments over the coming years.
