I'm in the process of narrowing down 10 engagement ring choices for my girlfriend. All the rings are different, but have a certain style in common. I can't seem to narrow it down any less. I don't know much, if anything about jewelry. I know it's a time consuming task but can someone help with which ring would be the best to choose?

I am also thinking about starting from scratch if none of the rings chosen are great. I can post all the stats if anyone is willing. Please there is a possibility I'll go insane.

Hi!

Why don't you start by telling us exactly what you are looking for (I have followed your journey in the other thread but this would help clarity in you post your narrowed down list here), for example: centre stone size/shape/color/type, likes/dislikes of your gf, budget etc
Then post the links to your top ten and we will all tell you which one we like best personally and which one we expect you gf to prefer based on the spec list you are going to post.

Hows that? Hopefully there will be some consensus and you can at least narrow down from 10 choices to, say 3-5.

Hi Thanks for the reply. I have already picked out the rings we would want but... just not sure how to narrow it down
But just to re-clarify:

Center Stone size: Around 1ct, no more than 2 (she has small size fingers 5 - 5 1/2)
Stone shape: Radiant, Cushion, Emerald, Asscher. No round, but do like Old Mine Cut
Color: White diamond with emerald or sapphire side stones or frame / or yellow diamond with white diamond side stones or frame (she likes some sort of color in the ring rather than all white)
Budget: Ideally 7-8 grand but can be stretched - just no more than 10

Let me know if I forgot anything. Thanks :)

Ok, good.

Where are the 10 options then? Can you post pictures or links?

Also please post if your future fiancee has given you any hints of what she likes, e.g setting, cut, metal color etc.
If she hasn't given you any hints, what kind of jewelry does she tend to wear? :)

With this many choices, you'd probably do just fine to put them on a dart board and throw darts. Seriously, you have too many options. You need to figure out some way to weed out some of them.

And you need to post links, not just descriptions. The info you've provided isn't going to help anyone help you choose.

The good thing is that you do have quite a few options and probably can't go really wrong with any of them.

Setting: Halo or side stones. She never liked plain solitaire I don't think.
Cut: Radiant, Cushion, Emerald, Asscher. No round, but likes Old Mine
Metal: No yellow or rose gold, unless the yellow gold is accenting the yellow diamond. She prefers platinum and white gold.

She loves to wear antique and antique style rings :)

Some of the choices do not have links. They all look great. But I'm not trying to base this on looks. I'm trying to figure out what the best value is based on the price and diamonds. Just hoping that someone that has a lot of knowledge on jewelry could look at the stats and help me out.

Edit: How would I add pictures? I forgot during my break in search

We really need the table, depth, crown angle, pavilion angle and images to help you

As a former solider I know how hard $$ can be to come by while in the service. First off, Thank you for your service! Secondly, I would suggest you do a $7-8K price window. ALOT of those rings fall into that catagory, so dont stretch you'll likely regret that later on, trust you me I know from past experience

With that said, give us some specifics, if any of these have certifications, and as much additional information as you can. As you are aware, information is vital to any successful mission! =)

Thank you. This $$ is from a recent deployment and savings. She stuck with me through everything so I figured she deserves something great :D
Sorry to hear about your past experience. Those troubled stories are not hard to come by now :nono:

We all have our experiences that are good or bad when we are younger and think we have it figured out. Deployment saved cash is a wonderful thing, but as I'm sure you're aware it goes fast!!!!!!!!! Life is much better now and I was hoping to share some of my past pain to try and avoid you some.

Where abouts are you located? CONUS or overseas... depending on the general location I might be able to give you a few suggestions of how to find things in your area depending on your location :Up_to_something:

reading this after the fact it looked semi nefarius, so I mean suggesting like pearlmans for a consignment piece or something along those lines

A fellow PSer found this for me

why not involve her in the process so you are sure you get something she loves!

Haha yes. Currently at Fort Bragg, NC. Have been for the past 2-3 years sadly.

She was involved for the most part. She told her friends and I what she wanted after we "slyly" asked her what she would want. We picked out all these rings, and she saw every single one of them. She said she loves them all so she wants me to pick the final piece which is driving me insane.

I really like number 5 and number 8, because they look like erings but have a beautiful antique look to them. I think number 1 doesn't look engagementy enough. Of course, these are just my opinions.

I didn't really like the yellow with the sidestones with the link.

If your GF really likes antique rings, I think that's probably what you should choose.

agreed. also, I see no reason to start from scratch unless you have a very clear idea of what she wants/likes...but if she has approved 10 rings then why not go with one! make sure it can be resized to the appropriate size though and also make sure that if you order you have a good return policy in case something doesn't check out.

I really    the first one...did you get 2k of discount?

Now that you mention it, I agree. Thank you for your input

I was beginning to have nightmares in my sleep that I would have to start from scratch

I can't see any of the pics for the NY vendor.

Here are my thoughts. The emerald cut with the huge double halo is gorgeous but I can't imagine wearing that everyday.

Here's what I would do. I'd call Mark Turnowski at Engagement Rings Direct. Tell him Pricescope sent you. And give him an 8k budget to get you this ring, but with sapphires instead of diamond carre cuts (square stones in the halo) in the halo for color. He has a good eye for step cuts and will find you something gorgeous, and this setting is perfect for her and will be MUCH MUCH better for everyday wear than anything I can you link to. And if you customize it with sapphires it will be less expensive and also more suited to her tastes.

Sapphires are MUCH harder than Emeralds. I would not wear an emerald ring as an engagement ring. Sapphires are a much better choice for daily wear.

That's my BEST advice.

Gypsy...I love that setting

to the OP: I really think this could work. You could also leave it all diamonds if you think she would prefer that. I really think this setting looks like the style of the rings you posted and you could get it made to her size. I think it would knock her socks off!

I agree with Gypsy about contacting Mark. Also, please don't do Emeralds for an e-ring. They are too soft and will end up damaged with every day wear! Sapphires are a much better choice IMO..

Ditto to all of the above! No emeralds in the e-ring! Sapphires are gorgeous and more durable! I have the picture that Gypsy posted copied in my own saved pictures because I LOVE that design and the round diamond one that is similar.
