Looking at a diamond that has a GIA report from January 2014. Is there any concern that this has been sitting around a while, or is it normal to see stones with reports from over a year ago?

Obviously the devil is in the details, but is there a grading date which starts to be a red flag?

Nope. It's fine. You can ask the dealer about it if you want. But it should be fine.

Sometimes it can mean a diamond was traded in. But a year isn't a long time in diamonds sitting on shelves.

What type of diamond is it?

Gypsy-

It's a modern cushion from Good Old Gold I'm been eyeing for a while now. Main concern is that it is an I color and almost $2,000 under my budget so I don't want to settle if I can find something better performing and larger spread for a bit more.

Also, is it common to get mismatched reports on James Allen? This stone intrigued me but report shows a round cut.

I bought a diamond through GOG last year that had a GIA report from 2006!
I don't know where the stone was all that time, but it's exceptional.
So don't let the date of the report influence you.
