I need recommendations on what jewelry stores to go if I have only one day in NYC. I''m not talking VCA, Cartier, or Tiffany''s. As much as I looooove big diamonds & eye candy, I don''t want to waste the time of any sales associate when I''m not in the market for a rock.

I''m looking for great estate jewelry stores where I can make some guilt-free, won''t-break-the-bank, self purchases. I love rings, especially antique/vintage/estate pieces. I know you guys are the experts, please suggest away!

Feel free to suggest your fav. restaurants too! I love food almost as much as I love jewelry.

What you want is 47th street between 5th and 6th: it *sounds* like it''s just one block, but almost every storyfront is the entryway to a warren of booths and dealers.

P.S. - Great question! I''m in London for a few weeks, and I''m wondering the exact same thing ....

I''m thinking GOG is near/in NY?

If he is, I think it would be best to book an appointment but that is one vendor I would love to visit....

Not vintage but some great cuts are always worth a look.

Do a PS search, I remember that Lorelei/Pandora had some great suggestions before. But they escape me....

Hatton Garden is a fish in the barrel type place - good for a look, just don''t expect much. It is possible to sift through the crap if you are buying.

No it''s an hour by train, but well worth it if you have the time.

I like Israel Rose/new york estate jewelry online. I would see if you can go see them. I know they have a showroom.

I would love to go anyway but perhaps it was not the best suggestion.

As far as the NY diamond exchange goes, I.D. Jewelry and the Facets people are on 47th St. Lots of our ladies have been ordering from (and are very happy) with what they''ve bought from Yuketiel at I.D. Jewelry. I''m going to pay a visit to Eternity Diamonds on 48th St. to look at some of their mountings. You might try them too. Our contact at Eternity is Yoni who is a very nice man. Wherever you go, tell them you''re a PSer and they''ll sharpen their pencil a bit for you.
