I am ready to pull the trigger from Ritani. For the limited time, they are currently not charging the sales tax.

Even though it is L color, strong blue fluorescence will help make it look whiter.

This is the setting we are considering.

You do need to understand that L color IS going to look tinted. Fluorescence is not going to have an effect most of the time. I wouldn't go to L color unless you are getting that ring in yellow gold.

It's rare, but it can make a stone look milky or oily in UV lighting. Which is the sun, a back light... Stuff like that. No reason to avoid Fluor, but you want to check with the vendor that it doesn't do it

The picture below was taken from GIA. Granted, the diamonds are graded face down, but you get the idea. I would just make sure that your SO is OK with a tinted stone.

I agree with Smilligan. You need to be sure that you are meeting your future fiancées expectations with what you buy. I would be very happy with an ideal cut L colour diamond but there are many others who won't be happy with anything lower than an H or I. If you know she will be happy with the tint, and the diamond is going to perform well you are set to go

He won't be seeing any of the side of that stone. Only the top. So while I completely agree it may be too tinged, The bottom view of diamonds isn't going to be what it looks like face up. Especially for a stone where you won be able to see the side, and it's essentially got a white gold cup.

Yes and no. Color is subjective, which is why it's important to know her preference. A J color will still appear relatively white once set whereas an L will still have a tinge of color (could be more or less depending on cut and setting). Also, I feel that I should mention that the image of the Ritani diamond is most likely a sample. It will say "Real HD" photo, otherwise. So if you're basing the decision on that picture, you will likely be surprised and/or disappointed.

I did. And you're right, which is why I put the disclaimer that those GIA diamonds are graded face down. Still, a setting can only hide so much color. Depending on where it falls in the L range (could be closer to M or K), it may still show too much. I don't want to give the impression that an L is a bad choice, because it really is personal preference. I just want the OP to be aware of what he might end up with. He started out wanting near colorless, so an L (even in that setting) might be a bit of a disappointment.

You're right.

I was just wondering how much a white gold cup can really effect the body color. Yellow gold cups make quite an effect.

It depends on what's most important. From the post it sounds like size is.

If size isn't, drop down to .8-.9 and aim for a J

We were looking for J or above color only because everybody told us to get at least J color.
I called them and asked more information about the stone. They advised me to order and and see it in person. They offer 30 days free returns. Worst case scenario, we will return the stone.

L color compared to D colorless is like candlelight ivory bridal fabric. There's nothing "wrong" with candlelight.

The white gold cup will actually make the color more apparent because of the contrast of the stone color with the white metal surrounding it similar to the effect of a white diamond halo surrounding a tinted stone. It is easier to use a lower color when using yellow gold for the ring, because the deep yellow gold will make the diamond look whiter in comparison. However, she may like the tint and will have to see it to know. I would encourage you to look at it next to a higher color diamond or two to get a feel for the difference.
