I've read a number of place that you should not go below 2mm on setting width, but am looking at the Legera by BGD which is 1.85mm top width and 1.80 top height. This would be platinum, so I shouldn't be at a significant risk of catching and bending, at least compared to gold, but figured it was worth a second opinion.

Does anyone have thoughts on if this is too delicate of a setting for a 6.5mm x 6.5mm cushion, in terms or durability?

I believe Victor Canera says 1.8mm is the minimum he recommends for pave shanks, so I think it is fine. I don't think BG would make a setting that was likely to have structural problems. Some vendors will, though. I think that is a very pretty setting!

my pave setting is less than 2mm at its widest point (even thinner at the split shank) and its platinum. i haven't had any problems with durability , but its only been a year. it feels very delicate, especially for my 7.46 by 7.12 stone, but the jeweler assured me that I wouldnt have any structural problems. the setting your considering is very pretty, you just have to be sure if you are good with something so lightweight and delicate and the way it feels on your finger. I like wearing my eRing with my wedding band much better since I can actually feel the presence of the ring on my finger now lol

It SHOULD BE FINE, BGD is know for manufacturing quality settings BUT this is what insurance is for. No matter what always have an independent insurance policy and you'll always be covered just in case.

My shank is 1.8mm width. when I spoke to my jeweller about it, he stated it shouldn't be a problem as for strength of the shank, both the width and the height of the shank is taken into consideration.

BGD isn't likely to sell a setting that has any issues. Also, the width may be 1.8mm but the depth/height/thickness of the setting in the other direction would also help to make it more durable.

Thank you all for the advice. Will certainly be getting insurance!
