1.8 ct trillion cut

Hello,
I'm trying to sell a family stone, a 1.8 ct trillion cut. It was appraised in 1980 to be around $4200, VS1 clarity and F color. I do not believe it is a certified stone, I only have the paperwork from a jeweler's appraisal 30 years ago. No idea about cut grade.

Since it is such a unique cut, does anyone have an idea of where I should start looking to sell? Would an average diamond dealer have an interest in this cut? Any other options to look in to? I am in NYC so I can head to the diamond district with no problem.

If you go walking around NY I would stop by at ID Jewelers and tell Yekutiel you are a pricescoper and see what advice he has for you. I would imagine it's going to be a difficult stone to get a good return on because frankly it's not as popular as some other shapes are. Replacement Values (usually what appraisals are for) are very different that resale values-- typically 50% more than you can get retail. Still, with a GIA certificate it will be easier to move. And also since the prices of diamonds have gone wacky since 1980 an updated appraisal from someone like Martin Fuller who I believe is in NYC -- and specifically an appraisal after you get the GIA certificate that is for RESALE value to advise you at what you range you should expect to be able to sell it for-- are a start. You don't even need a written appraisal from him. Just go to his office, pay him for his time and talk to him about what you can expect to get by selling it.

I agree with everything that Gypsy wrote--she is very knowledgeable (and helpful!) The only thing I have to add is that Martin Fuller is located in McLean, VA. He is a _great_ appraiser, and he helped me buy by first major colored stone purchase. His hourly rate is higher than some appraisers, but his fee is completely reasonable compared to other appraisers of his skill and experience. I highly recommend him.
