Not a frequent poster but an avid lurker
My mother has been thinking about buying a new stone up to $5k (way max price). She went once with my sister to Zales and almost bought a barely 1ct stone at like an H or I including setting for $4k.
I decided to take her to my favorite jeweler in the area and asked for some cushion loose diamonds that were on the "faintly yellow scale" that would lend the stone a warmer color. I'm personally partial to those colors after clicking on way too many links here. I didn't request a size or a price, just like said that we'd to see what they had in stock.
Low and behold out comes the most beautiful (to me) 1.77ct modern cushion cut N, VS1 stone with cert from EGL. That I'd ever seen. I don't know how much my mother loved it but I sure did. They had marked it at $7200 for the loose stone because it was a larger stone that a customer or someone else walked in with that they recut. The cutlet was large and so when set east west it faced up to look like a 2 ct stone
We were able to actually talk them down to $5k with a wire or cash price. Now I feel like she (okay, I) NEEDS to have it.
BUT - my mom and sisters aren't big browsers of the warmer stones, or cushion cuts. While me on the other hand had been wearing for about 4 years a transitional cut 1.64ct L/M colored stone that was my ex-husbands family heirloom. Needless to say, it's no longer here to show her why lower color stones can still be spectacular.
The sales guy wasn't really the owner and started the discounting at too low a level and his boss needless to say wasn't happy to give it away for $5k. - I have a time limit - it's my mother's until MONDAY.
I KNOW in my heart of hearts that we won't be able to find a piece like this in maybe forever again.
Sorry for the long story, but my question is - what's the best way to take pictures or show the stone in a way that can convince her of the beauty of these unique stones without her having regrets that she didn't get a "colorless" diamond.
edit to add: if we don't buy it on Monday, they will reprice it up because the manager/owner was surprised it was even that price of $7200 to begin with.
