Hey guys,
I was presented with two stones.

Stone 1:
1.71
SI1
H
Polish - Very Good
Symmetry - Good
Depth and Width in the 60s. (Dont remember the exact)

Stone 2:
1.51
VS1
H
Polish - Excellent
Symmetry - Very Good
Depth and Width in the 60's. (Dont rember the exact)

I was given a price of 11,000 for either stones. They both look georgeous, however I do see the 1.51 to be "shinier" or a bit brilliant than the 1.71. The jeweler was not pushy and said, its different when its under our lights versus everyday wear. He also mentioned that the 1.71 size will compensate against the 1.51.

If you guys had a choice, what would you pick? The size is a bit noticeable. Also, is this considered a good price?

Thanks for any feedback.

Hi! Everyone is going to tell you that we can't judge cushions based on the numbers, we need some pictures.

Do you have pictures that you can share?

ugh... I wish I can get pictures.... I went during lunch and is now back at work. I will try to go back to the jewelers later tonight. However, I will comment that both stones look so beautiful as compared to some of my buddy's engagement rings of the same price....

As far as pricing goes. Is this what I should be expecting?

Do the stats you have come from a grading lab? (GIA, EGL, etc.) If so, which one?

Its GIA graded.

I have bad pictures of the sheets and the physical copies are with my future mother in law. :)

the 1.71 stone has clouds, feather and indented naturals for "inclusions"
the 1.51 stone has crystal and needle.

the 1.51 is a bit cleaner under 10X.

I also noted that this dealer said he does not do discounts. (weird) This is family owned too. He stated the price he gives along with the setting is comparable and/or better.

I was hoping to knock at least 5% off with a cash payment... :( (As you can see, I suck a haggling)

Your last post has me confused--does the price include a setting AND the stone? If so, what setting, exactly?

It's difficult to come up with comparable prices since we have no idea what kind of cushions these are. You can do a search on Pricescope's main page for diamonds. I searched for a 1.7 - 1.71 H SI1 cushion and this is what came up:

Here are the results for a 1.5 to 1.51:

It looks like most of these cushions come in under $11,000. Now, this info really doesn't mean anything because we haven't seen your cushions so we have no idea if they are worth buying at all. I say this because there are a lot of BAD cushions out there, and without seeing them, we can't tell you if they're worth what this jeweler is charging. Please don't just buy one of these without posting pictures. I know it feels like you just want to get it done asap right now, but it really is worth getting some feedback from PSers.

Thanks a lot. 11000 is just for the stone. The total price I was quoted with a 1.85mm Pave .34carat in platinum is 1500. This brings me to a total of 12500.

Sorry about the confusion!

Those prices appear to be what Ive been seeing too. I will try to get pictures tonight.

Also, I appreciate what you are doing for me. Its not everyday we have people like you PSers who would take time out of their day to help another person out. :)

That's what we're here for!

I'm not a cushion expert, by any means. Just a gal who really loves cushions and has been lucky to own a couple. Once you get those photos and post them I'm hoping the experts will chime in with their opinions.

Be sure to take photos with your camera set on macro-mode. The best photos will show us the stones' faceting patterns. I'd take a bunch of shots of the stones head on because you never know which ones will turn out best.

I hope you have a couple of beauties!
